Key cost?
« on: 13 January 2022, 22:16 »
I think the imobiliser part of one of my keys is acting up.
Ive done some reading up but all the posts are old ones,
Is it still the case that only the dealer can program the immobiliser side on mk6 flip keys?
Im feeling a £300 bill for a key coming my way  :undecided:

You will need to get a new transponder but I believe that if you have one working transponder key you can programme the other one. Need to know the transponder part number for the correct frequency. Not had to do this but have replaced the casing which is relatively easy. Several internet sites suggest the same method of programming so worth a try? Do not need to use a dealer these days as some locksmiths can do it. Cost of a transponder compared to programming costs would be a saving.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Thanks, Did feel a shame to replace the complete key as it's like new, except the imobiliser transporter acting up. The other keys fine. I'll  have to research up further and see about replacement the transponder and coding.

Turned out i didnt need to replace it as it wasn't the key at fault, it was a intermittent faulty relay.

An old thread, but I needed a new key for the 2013 Polo as the blade had snapped. £40 from Timpsons for a complete key with the blade cut. The only 'coding' was unlocking the drivers door with the key blade then turning on the ignition within 10 seconds.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
