VW warranty
« on: 11 August 2023, 08:11 »
Have decided to purchase a 2021 GTI clubsport.  Car has been serviced once at around 14k miles and currently has 18k on the clock.  The paperwork available indicated that the service was not carried out at a main VW dealer.  Should I have any concerns with regards to the reamining warranty??

Yes.

Needs to be serviced at vw dealer really to keep warranty they say you can take it anywhere as long as they use genuine parts but could easily see vw getting out of that if you have a claim!

Also when you sell or trade it if it is at a vw dealer they will not want it as not full vw service history.

May also put off some potential buyers.

Who serviced it?
Mk6 GTI DSG
MK7.5 GTI performance DSG

Hi Davo,
I take mine to a non franchise specialist who does use genuine VW parts/oil etc. and updates the Erwin/VW service schedule.
Fair point though about any excuse not to cover a claim but same parts/same recording system? Guess its a small print read through.

Oh yes I agree same parts and possibly better service and more knowledge from and independent but I suspect they will use any excuse not to honour a warranty claim tbh especially the way vw are penny pinching nowadays 😄

No question about better service and knowledge for sure. You are correct though about any excuse/penny pinching without a doubt.

I’ve not taken my GTI to a franchised dealer since it’s 3rd Birthday.
Same as Tony Jazz, local Indy uses VW parts sourced via TPS and updates the VW electronic service record.
Never bothered with the extended warranty as if VW is like Land Rover (previous car), the Warranty is a branded third party product, so more of an insurance contract that they will try and weasel out of.
Nice speaking to the actual mechanic that works on my car and get a better service plus it’s cheaper.
