On diesels it's the cetane number / rating that your looking for - octane is for petrol  :wink:



Yeah I know but the higher the cetane is, doesn't have the same effect as the higher the octane is in petrol. Is that right?

Will keep the internals a bit cleaner, but modern cars now all have completely adjustable timing, so really, it's not worth the extra dollar as the new engines don't really need it now.

The effects of having a higher cetane rating should be a better, faster burn giving a smoother more powerful engine.

If you search on the net opinions vary wildly  :sad:

If I get r e a l y bored in work I may do some dyno runs and eu drive cycles using gravimetric tanks filled with both high and normal cetane diesel to see if there are any real world differences.

I've always found that both the Golf and the Audi smoked less and went further per tank on the premium diesel stuff.

I avoid supermarket fuel at all costs as that's just nasty  :sick:  I think the Golf smoked less when the turbo went BOOM  :laugh: :laugh:

Use it as often as I can  :smiley:

Filled up before going on hols, done 400 miles, 4 up with suitcases and still have 1/4 tank left
