Fuel Consumption on idle
« on: 16 October 2011, 21:42 »
Interesting this one, any ideas how much fuel the GTD uses at idle?  I have some lights that I get to at some roadworks and the lights last for 3 and half minutes, so I turn the engine off.  Just wondering how much fuel I would waste leaving it on?

At the most a few mg/stroke if that.

There are various maps an engine will drop in to when at different states, so there will be a idle map that will allow the engine to tick over using minimal fuel.

Well you can watch the MFD fuel con drop while you are sitting in traffic 3-6mpg depending how long your there but it soon goes back up once your moving.

If you switch yours off you must be tight I bet you wish you had the stop/start system?

Yeah its an interesting thought really but for three and half minutes is a long time.  Maybe a remapper knows like doc?  I wondered if Vagcom could tell me fuel usage, it must know as it decreases the mpg as you suggested.  I think it would lose more than 3-6mpg, but i suppose it depends on how long and distance for the average to drop.  It certainly goes fast from 58mpg in only a 20 mile journey.
