edition 35 timing belt or chain?
« on: 22 August 2024, 14:56 »
My edition 35 is going in for first service since arriving with me I'm going for a major service to cover everything but dose it have a timing belt of chain? I'm confused some say chain and some say belt so a definitive answer would be much appreciated.

thanks in advance

Unlike the ‘normal’ mk6 Golf GTI which uses the EA888 engine and has a timing chain, I think the ED35 uses the VAG’s older EA113 engine - a slightly de-tuned version of the mk6 Golf R’s engine - which has a cam belt.

Information on www.timingbeltorchain.net seems to confirm this; see link below;

https://timingbeltorchain.net/volkswagen-golf-vi-typ-5k1-2008-2012-6th-generation-timing-belt-or-chain-2270
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

As an Edition 35 owner, I can confirm the above - 100% belt.
