Title: Liam's mk2 daily *20vt conversion started* pictures of some quality
Post by: lemski on 18 July 2011, 12:12
(i'll upload pics later)
I got a shell given too me by a mate. He assured me it wouldnt be repairable. But me, martin and ian managed to weld it all up in a week.
Then the old dailly made its last journey. The 3door shell had nothing so we had to take it all out of the old car. 9hours and it was all plugged in. turned over but wouldnt start.
Next morning went back out to it. Looked at the wiring and played about abit and it fired up.
The next week consisted of me playin with wiring til everything worked. It then say for 2weeks and went for mot. Failed on rear brake pipe and brake pedal dropping under pressure. Not a problem, took itback with a new brake pipe and went through. Theres alot more to this 3week build but al put that on with pictures. Cos we all love pictures. :)

So how do you go about making a pump?
Title: Re: Liam's new dailly
Post by: lemski on 21 July 2011, 12:49
Well we changed all the corroding metal piping to copper pipe and it was a little smaller, giess it built pressure better than adjusted fuel accordingly to make it fuel correctly still.

I totally don't, not at the moment anyway. 312's will be fairly hefty on such a light car but having them can't hurt. Do Porsche rear calipers not fit, with a bit of fiddling as a cheaper way to get shiny red brembo's on the front of your golf.

Oh I agree!
I wouldnt fit Wilwoods for scene points! What is that anyway?
Only interested in them for their braking performance.
Oh and because they are not Brembo!
Title: Re: Liam's new dailly
Post by: lemski on 12 September 2011, 16:50
scene points is when u follow certain trends to hav,ur car fit in. for instance, porker rims on a mk2 5door a few years ago. Or rattin a car cos its what the 'scene' is doing.
I think id have brembos, but willwoods or aps are better moneywise I feel

few days before i left for my new home, the wheel bearing got replaced as my grandad didnt think it was safe anymore.
drove 200 miles trouble free. then started stuttering and missing all over the place. fuels been adjusted and such, its not so bad but i might be able to get my hands on a low mileage a3 turb for cheap so im not fussed. ripped a hole in my exhaust from runnng to low. welded that up.

got 4 toyo tr-1s through work at a reasonable price.
o and a few new stickers.

ill try and update more as time goes on

cheers liam

Gloss black ftmfw, I miss my gloss black Mk2, and more unusual than metallic/matt black.

ek9civic turbo, if you ever do make sure that you inform the insurers etc. Guy at my college did that but didn't got busted banned and a massive fine.

I might have a 20vT coming shortly too but I'm thinking of just selling it on as I'm just not feeling the F/i.

well been a few days, got a new ignition module. still no change. i have decided to trace all the engine loom wiring. its a long and slow process but am getting there. might be swapping engines out soon anyway, not decided which lump to drop in yet. will decide at a later date.

so on the weekend i did how ever get the golf in the back of the workshop. strted off with taking the windows out, door handles off, bumpers off etc. i tried taking more pictures for everyone.

i also decided to finish (or make more presentable the warped metal from wich the repair panel was welded in. sort the front arches a little more and also sort  a few other little bits off that were annoying me a little bit

and that person you can see is the mate that helped me sand and such. (coup)

we keyed the previouys paint up and used that as the base as i couldnt find the 5litres of primer we have sat about some where in the garage.
so on to the masking.
what a job it was to mask the back window up. we got it all sorted in the end though. took a stroke of genious though.

now the part i enjoyed was the painting, first car i have painted on my own entirely. the test section on the rear valance turned out perfect 1st time. got some runs in the paint on the boot and some other areas though which annoyed me. but we got the sanders back out and re sprayed them sections again.

After 2 hours of wire tracing and seeing if owts broke I started usin split pins to test wires to act as the switch. More progress tomorow after I rip a few things out of the scrap rocco at the scrap yard. :) its my new donna car. Lol
Also on saturday am doin something with my wheels. Not decided what coloiur yet though. :/.

Its doable and have to say its all in the stance been on ED38 too much

With that colour of yours it makes the whole car look wider and meaner it will stand out better than 1K splits you have to polish everytime you take them out  :lipsrsealed:
Combined with G60 arches now thats an issue with costs of those

I like ATS cups another great looking wheel love to deep dish those if I had the dollars!
or failing that you can pick up borbet A's f**ked ones that need refurb, but spray it Matt black they look awsome for little money!

i could just get 25mm rear spacers. that'll push the rears to the edge of the arch.

donk do splits to be honest, just dont like polishing lips up and keepin em that way.

i have decided as of today. rip the engine out and front end off. all brake lines and such. then re-spray the bay and the out side on the rear arch. wind it up about 40 mm so that its driveable. hide the lighting loom and engine loom and sort of go from there. may even get a different engine in there if my new business pics up enough. (im told to  keep the 16v)

good stuff lem and i reckon u should keep the valver maybe do a full strip down of the engine changing any gaskets needed and paint up the block and such maybe a head skim to bring up the compression to squeeze full potential out of it...

You, winding the suspension up!? No way.   It can be more fun to get the height somewhere decent enough that you can give it some beans without any issue.   Mine's low but not slammed, nothing interferes with anything and it can even go over speed bumps with ease.

If you didn't put the valver back in, what would you have in it's place?
Title: Re: Liam's mk2 daily *pic page 24*

Yeh me windin it up. Wen takin it to new unit i ripped of both feont arches. A rear arch and both sideskirts. Then half my splitter so its going up now. And if i did it i would get a 2l tfsi lump in there. Were startin to brake caes at work so i can work my way to brakin a s3 and keepin the engine

today was a slow day at the office. So i thought i may aswell start on the engine bay. been meaning too for a while now. so 1st off was taking the wings off (one needs replacing) and the front end.
i then got the trusty engine crane out to pull the 16v lump out.
removed all my wiring and anything else that was easilly removed
(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h367/lemski18/2012-03-22_12-28-03_835.jpg)
sprayed 1st layer
(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h367/lemski18/2012-03-22_14-52-15_80.jpg)
sprayed second layer
(http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h367/lemski18/2012-03-22_14-58-03_683.jpg)
some needs flattening back and redoing before the final touches get put on it. still waiting to hear back from a guy about that though

in other news the wheels are now either going black.

Okay buy ones that won't mod so you can tranfer them or sell them without too much so stick to black what ever happens because if you spray them or change them from stock you will loose money big time!
Need to see them photo shot piccys

16v mounts all round. with a solid front mount. having to do ce1 wiring loom though as its an early car like.

should be all nicley in tomorow. waiting for the intercooler to turn up.

long life in bristol on friday to get a downpipe n exhaust made up. then just the wiring. ive been in formed by rj its not too hard when u have the looms side by side

Sorted on the wirin. Plugged the loom that doesn't need modifying in. Just need to now sort the other bit. Got the wiring out of audi. Maybe start on that tomorow. Its hard going between jobs at work so only get few minutes here n there.

Ill get some pictures using a mates phone. Got my front engine mountin bracket today so engine will be in for good tomorow.

Only problem is that the auidi drivers drive shaft is far to long. Am going to see if I can swap the inner cv onto a mk3 shaft. Then ill be sorted on that sence.
Have to wait for my down pipe and exhaust to be made til next week as we havnt had time to close up shop and go see them. All in all coming together now. Just glad I had my mates 20vt mk2 to use as a guide to what wires are needed

I've been quoted 150 by my mate who does it. That's for the lot. But I still need the down pipe n exhaust. Also inter cooler pipin. Every things on. There's not a lot of wiring to be fair. Less than I though there would be. Its also all in the bay ready to go.

apart from this i am about to fit the rest of the stuff for my hydro clutch. also wondering the best way to mount the audi gear selector. looks like im going to have to cut the mk2 alittle bit.

I've taken the dsive and ordered my down pipe and exhaust. My wallets 400 lighter but it puts me on track again. Just front engine mount bolts and 1 straight bit of pipe. And everythings ticked off. My mates back off holiday on friday and assures me his 1st thing is to wire her up.
