could get the blues done in a vinyl wrap nick,  :undecided: not permanent then

Full wraps are tre expensive and just the stripes in sticky back plastic would cost more than the paint and rollers. I'm not fussed about it being permenant as this old girl is never going to be a fully trimmed road car again anyway.

So all of this has finally formed an on going plan for this car which to be honest was originally just razz it round track days and fix what breaks. As a lover of shows as well as trackdays I've always wanted the car to look good as well as drive well. I can't afford (nor really want) a full blown show car but now I have a plan. A replica 87 season touring car like the one above. I can do it without spending big bucks and then I can have fun with how it drives and how it looks without having to worry about mint paintwork. Also as a rep it'll never go "out of fashion" in the scene and should get a little interest on club stands etc.

The exterior will be the easiest and cheapest bit to do. All the cage and stuff will be expensive but will be beneficial for trackdays so it's win/win. I now feel I have a long term plan for the car far more than I did before and I reckon in a couple of years it should be awesomez.

Nick

its amazing what a picture can do!

what a shame we can't make the mechanical bits like the old btcc cars

In an 8v? Are you crazy? All that torque would stop the earth from spinning!

Nick, I think I have a Windows 95/98 era laptop with a serial port you can have for free, collect from me or maybe the Reading VAG meet?

Not tried to boot it for years, I will see if I can find it when i get home.

shame your so far away, could have sorted something out with the vinyls. Would look better than rolled on paint! although as you said, its not going back to a proper road car.

Do it!

Roller paint is not to be sniffed at. If you get the right stuff and do it properly it can be done perfectly. There was a guy in the sates with a concourse splitty painted with rustoleum and a gloss roller. Seach google for $50 paint job.

Right I've found a guy on eBay who can do me the replica Shell and Champion stickers in the right size for about £25. The Dunlop ones are easy enough to sort but the two tricky ones are going to be the Quantum  stickers and the period Dunlop/RAC Touring Car door/bonnet numbers. I need to find some better photos of them and see if someone can then knock them up.

As for the blue stripes I've check and rustoleum seems to come in the right 2 shades of blue but I've asked for a proper colour chart in the post so I can double check before ordering it.
