I am on my second GTI and third DSG.  I have missed a manual gearbox from time to time, but I have to say, in the 8.5 GTI, the DSG is much more responsive than my 7.5 GTI DSG.  Kicks down much more quickly even in Comfort mode and is much more aligned to how I would drive with a manual.  I have yet to give it a good thrashing in sport and manual mode as there is only 500 miles on the clock, so feel it needs wearing in still, plus because its been cold and icy, but looking forward to seeing what it can really do.  I think you will really enjoy it.
Current: Golf GTI 8.5. Pure white/black, pan roof, Queenstown, DCC, HK, Area view, spare wheel
Gone: 2018 Golf GTI 7.5 performance pack with standard spec
Gone: 2016 Golf GTE 7
Gone: 2013 Audi A3 S-Line
Gone: 2010 Golf GT TDI

Possible return to a GTi is now a definite return to a GTi!!

Just put a deposit down on a mk8.5 GTi.

* Oyster Silver Metallic Black with black roof
* Soul Black-Tornado Red interior
* 19" 'Queenstown alloy wheels
* Adaptive Chassis Control DCC in combination with 19-inch alloys
* Exterior Styling package Black Style with Matrix LED headlights
* Sound system "Harman Kardon", 8+1 speakers, 480W total power output, 12 channel amplifier, subwoofer

List price new is £45,365

This one is 4 months old and a demo car owned by a VW dealer with 4k miles on the clock and it was considerably less than list price.

I should have it by the end of the week or early next week, can't wait. The only thing that I am nervous about is that I have never driven an automatic or DSG before As my previous GTi's and R were manuals. As I am 64 years old, I hope it's not too late to learn!!

Also looking forward to being back on this forum.

Congrats!  :smiley:
Don't forget to take plenty of photos! That car and spec is unusual and well worth sharing some photos of.

Learning DSG is easy. The GTI engine is super-flexible so all you’ll need to do is sit back and enjoy the ride, just let the gearbox do its thing. You can make living with a DSG complicated but you really don’t have to as it works seamlessly with all the other techy gizmos.  It does everything for you.
I was a huge DSG sceptic and can still control a manual car much more accurately but these days I can’t be bothered and just let the auto box do the thinking for me.

Kings red is gorgeous. I think it’s what I’d go for if I couldn’t have gone for Dolphin Grey, which is the closest replacement to Indium, which I also had in 7.5 PP form. Nice metallic to them both. Dolphin didn’t catch my eye as much. It’s a touch lighter than Urano, wasn’t my choice, especially on the clubby but I will grant it does look quite good.

There were two parked next to each other in the 2 greys at a show this summer, was great to compare them.
These photos are from JustCarCare who hosted it.

Dolphin at the back, then Moonstone, then Urano on the 7.5
Current - MK8 CS - Dolphin Grey, DCC, Black Estoril, Rear Camera, Sunroof, Winter Pack, Harmon Kardon

Previous and sorely missed - MK7.5 GTI Perf, Indium Grey, Brescias, Art Velours, Rear Camera

Your car looks stunning in that colour.
If really like silver (looks great and also hides the dirt!!) and would defo have gone for that colour if it had been an option on the clubsport. Not sure why its not.
Wednesday will be here soon enough, enjoy.

It should be easier than this but back to having paint indecisions on my clubsport!!

I had settled on Kings Red but was in the local VW dealers yesterday having our wee Up Gti serviced.
Arteon under showroom lights looked good but Golf Gti and Polo outside on wet cloudy day looked dreadful.
They just looked so dark and dull. I know lighting effects all colours but it did Kings red no favours.

I would take, Tornado red, Reflex silver or Atlantic blue in a second but alas all gone.

Back to thinking things over again, I'm even now leaning towards white!!

IMHO white has lot going for it over some other colours;
  • easy to care for and hides swirl marks well for anyone who doesn’t use a safe two or three bucket wash method
  • DIY stone chip repairs aren’t easily seen
  • if you’re unfortunate enough to need paintwork repairs, white is an easy colour to match
  • contrasts well with the GTI’s red and black accents
  • looks good under all lighting conditions - VW showcased the mk7 GTI in Pure White when it was originally launch for good reason
The only real downsides (again IMHO);
  • it shows dirt more than some other colours, although all colours will get dirty
  • white shows tar spots, although they’re easily removed with a good tar and glue removal product
It would be Pure White for me.
2020 Polo GTI Plus; Pure White, DSG (because they all are)
Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl
