How to drive a DSG properly

Hello all.
I have had my 18 GTD with DSG for six months now and I still haven't totally gelled with the gearbox. Sometimes the car makes me smile but other times I am frustrated by the lack of instant pickup and being in the wrong gear. Am I being too gentle with it? How do other people drive theirs? Any tips would be appreciated.
