I've got a 1991 Gti with central locking and I had to replace the tailgate lock recently as the lock itself had seized solid. I pulled out the central locking rod and slotted it back in when I put the new lock in. The problem is, I can't see how the rod operates the lock as it is just pushing in and out at the moment without engaging the lock.
There's a slot in the rod which looks like it is designed for a circlip or similar but I can't remember seeing one when I took it apart and the parts diagrams don't really show it well enough. If anyone has any idea how the two connect then I'd be grateful. I've arrowed the slot in the rod in the photo.
