Probably can do with the head on but its easy to take them off and time up etc (only buy stems from vw!)

Ive only got a backbox and its sweet nearly everywhere  in 5th gears its annoying at 2300rpm and its quite quiet at about 90mph for some reason. Yeah keep your centre box

So I replaced all my thermostat housing and crack pipe with new genuine vw parts and seem to have cured my overcooling problem however now my expamsion tank is leaking slightly through the cap and water has got into the fan control module knackering that so those are the next parts I need to get. Also my nsr plastic wheel arch fell off somewher so going to de-arch the rest at some point.

Beginning to get on my tits all these problems but will hopefully get there in the end.

Like you i have had water leak problems. I had to replace my thermostat housing too.. Also replace the expansion tank cap for a new one.. that stopped the water coming out the over flow.

Mine must have been leaking internally and allowing coolant past the thermostat. Heaters still isn't great though. Not too fussed bout cleaning up the bay at the minute, just want it mechanically sound.

Just a few pics of what I have been doing to the VR this weekend.

First up was get in in the garage and get the wheels off.

Set of cheap hottunnings for it just now. New top mounts also.

Some new drop links.

Removed the plastic arches. Wee spot of rust on rear drivers side but that was it.

Set the ride height and gave her a good polish. Still got a wee bit of markings where the arches were but will work on that.

Will need to raise it up slightly as got a bit of arch rubbing going on. Maybe even roll the arches or fit some 16's instead. Got new number plates coming. Also waiting on a replacement fan control module. We're getting there.

Cheers mate, yeah its a pretty solid car. Had welding done at the front where floor meets the sill but thats prob due to it being jacked up there. Looks a good job anyway!! Sills themselves are mint. Compared to my old 97' one I restored this is in very good nick.
