Mk2 too a Mk7
« on: 23 February 2024, 09:09 »
It’s been a while since I’ve had a GTI after having several Mk2’s the last of which was a 1989, one lady owner (think she was 82) and who was only selling as she needed an automatic as she was going in for an op on her knee. It had only covered 28k miles and this was in 2009. I travelled down for Scotland to Kidderminster for it and met Jean who was a lovely lady that I stayed in touch with for many years.

I paid £2500 for it and sold it about 3 or four years later for £5k to the owner of a local VW specialist garage in Glasgow. I’d taken it in for some servicing work and he said if I was ever selling it to give him the chance to buy it. The worse car selling decision I ever made followed a few months later when I took him up on his offer.

Here’s some pics…

I’ve posted a wanted ad in the for sale section looking for a nice Mk7.5 Performance or even a standard mk7 GTI. Just looking for something original and unmodified with a good history that I can stick in the garage and use as a toy at the weekends.

Welcome Sprotacus

Aside from the standard corrosion on the polished wheels, what a lovely example of a mk2 that was, it even has power steering which is quite rare on earlier cars.

Good luck on your hunt for a long overdue replacement.
