That’s amazing. A couple of years ago my local dealer would not have been stocking any used Golf over 3 or maybe 4 years old. And there would be plenty on offer especially at the 3 year age!

You can occasionally spot a MK6 on vw.co.uk

That twelve year old R has 77,000 miles and can be yours for £13,000

It does some nice extras, ACC, 19" wheels and leather.

Has there been any past discussion about the pros/cons of

1. Pre-facelift performance model
2. Post-facelift standard model

The pre-facelift will be older, but with about equal miles the pricing can be very similar.

Any thoughts?

Hello, I am still looking at MK7s and have found another possible candidate, the MOT record is OK part from

Bonnet primary retaining device excessively deteriorated - failed

Is this a common fault on the MK7?

If by ‘bonnet primary retaining device’ it’s referring to the bonnet release cable mechanism, then these are known to fail, leaving the bonnet locked and the owner with the inconvenience and hassle of trying to get it open! There have been owners on the forum who’ve had this happen to them.

A cheap and very effective repair is to use zip ties around the cable junction box.
