Looking at getting a pure white 5 door gtd on lease. I can’t decide between 65% or 90% tint. I’ve seen pictures and some 65% looks dark and some look light. Also some 90% look almost completely black!
The dealer has one which is in emden port with 65% tint and Brescia alloys . So I don’t know whether to take this or wait 5 months just for the 90% tint option  there also the option of getting sun blinds but I don’t know if this would effect rear visibility when parking especially at night
I’m also 50/50 on the white colour too, indium grey looks nice :lipsrsealed:
-
I have the standard 65% tint on my car.It is pretty dark under all conditions.I would not waste my cash on a further tint.Sunblinds?-nah.Save even more cash.
Best option i went for was my heated front screen.

I have had 65% and 90% and when you are inside there is little difference between the two but a lot when looking at the car from the outside. Also, judging by my experience and others on here. You won’t be waiting anything like 5 months for a factory order !! I was quoted 16-18 weeks When I ordered and it was built in 6 weeks !!
Indium grey is a great colour  here’s a couple of photos of my latest with 90% and previous with 65% to add to your dilemma
90%

I'd go 90 on a 5 door, 65 on a 3 door. The 3 door has less area of rear side glass, so in my opinion looks odd with too much of a contrast against the front doors.
-
I debated this when getting my Indium GTI. Decided just to stick with standard tint and happy I did as looks just fine.
Indium or white are both great. I had a white GTD before my current Indium GTI. Would have gone white again but wanted a change after 4 years in a white Golf. If I buy another it will likely be white as I feel it just looks fresher and sportier.
Go for the built car especially as it has the wheel upgrade which look great. The wait to build a fresh order can be very long.

Hi Wrex22. Here is my pure white GTI with standard tint. It can look a bit light under some conditions (like here) but I'm still happy to be honest. Someone flagged to me that white cars can look like a van if the rear tint is too dark and whilst I've never really seen that myself it did make me question spending the extra cash.
By the way, I also have the Brescias and love them (the ones on the pic are my winter wheels) so I would stick with the one that's built personally.

Black cars maybe, but not white. When was the last time you saw a white van with black rear side panels?
-
If I was ordering from the factory I would definitely go 90%, I much prefer them, but if the perfect spec was available with 65% I would probably take it. Below is my 7R with 65% and my current CS with 90%.

Waste of money going for 90% tints imo. Unless you're some sort of gangster or drug dealer
-
It’s less than 100 quid to spec? If factory order, definitely go for it. Looks a lot better imo. But if there’s a car already built and you’re otherwise happy with it I wouldn’t wait 12 weeks for the tint tbh.

Yeah that's a really good point... maybe it was mcmaddy who convinced me haha!!

Although I prefer the 65% tints, the darker tints look OK against the lighter paint colours.
As above avoid dark tints on dark coloured 3 door cars unless you like the van look.
-
It all depends on the ambient light whether the 65% looks dark or not and the angle you are looking at it and what's behind it.
We have 90% on the R and GTI and in some lights it looks the same as my sons 65% tints.
Yet sometimes his 65% can look as dark as our 90%.
Its certainly one of the first options I'd add to the car as I prefer them.
I love how folk always compare them to drug dealers!! Did they not have big alloys as well or is that okay to conveniently forget that as most cars have big alloys now? Move with the times

Here's a couple of shots of my CS in pure white with 90% tint for comparison...

I've asked the dealer to install 90% tints. I think they suite the estate
-
I was in similar situation but other way round. I didn't want 90% tints but only car available quickly had them, so I went for it as I didn't want to wait too long.
I was worried it would make it too dark in the back, especially as all the interior is dark ( I was coming from Leon FR which has a light interior) but it doesn't really.
I think the 90% tints make the car look good, especially white and red ones.

It depends if you want to wait

Nice choice. You could always get the rears tinted darker if you really wanted to, as long as you have a good tinting person locally. A guy I know in Sheffield does cars every week for all the main dealers for people who want factory tint. He did a couple of my cars years ago and the quality was very good.

Good decision. Spend the money you’ve saved by not having the darker tints on petrol and enjoy driving your car!

None of the attached pics appear in the previous few posts :( wanted to see the difference. What exactly is the legal window tint limit you can get and what is the common % to get.

The VW dealer added the 90% tint to my estate. (https://i.imgur.com/xolM7C1.jpg)

I think postimg.org is down I'm afraid and a lot of the photos are posted that way

It seems their web address has changed - postimg.cc seems to work but unfortunately that means all the old links are no longer going to work, no idea why it has changed.
-
Cheers watts, I'll check out the cc address instead.

From the B pillar back, you can paint the windows black if you want. It's no different to a car derived van, or any over van for that matter, except bigger vans have better mirrors.

Dark windows (in this case 90%) on dark colours can obscure details
