Dealer car movements
« on: 13 January 2009, 11:55 »
Found a nice motor on the VW website for me old Mum only problem it is in Liverpool and she is in Scotland.

Do the dealers do car movements between each other?  As in if I went to the dealer and asked them to get that car for her would they buy it and then my Mum bought it off them?  I know that Audi do so I am presuming that VW do too?

i had this problem, i live near bath and found a car i wanted that was based in Shrewsbury, about 155miles away, i had been speaking with bath dealer as he was on look out so as soon as the car became available i said this is the one, can you get it down and wel do a deal! No was the answer shrewsbury gave him so i had to go to them to do a deal and collect. I did have a nice long drive back home though!!

I think it depends on whether the dealers are in the same group. I bought my Gti from Smith Knight Fay in Oldham which was part of the Inchcape group, and they were happy to transfer cars around their group.

Why not just ask?

Cheers. :)

I have asked and he said that they had no tie up!  That is why I asked here as I was sure that they would be the same as Audi who bent over backwards to get the car I wanted from Lincoln to Aberdeen without even a hint of huffyness!!!

I have now made contact with the dealer direct.

You would have thought that in the current climate dealers would be desperate for a sale but it appears otherwise.

Thanks for your replies guys

when I was on the lookout for my gti a salesman with Arnold Clark said to me that if I found a car anywhere they would get it for me, thankfully I didn't have to follow him up on his empty words, sorry :lipsrsealed: promises

I really object to motorpoints tactic of advertising a car say in MP Glasgow, you call them up and only then find out the car is in Derby and it will cost you £140 to move it and you must put down a £500, which you will only get refunded IF the car was not properly represented!

Just be aware of any additional costs is my point really.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

They are mate, but also if they transfer a car out its not a sale, they cant make money on it or use it towards dealer targets. So you can see where there coming from on that.

But Good luck now your in touch direct..........this is payback time for buyers everywhere.....Bend them over!!

My VW dealer didn't have any black GTIs for the right spec and price so looked on their website and there was an ED30 from Hull or somthing for the right price. They got it within a week and it was mine the week after that (was real busy).

They sold it to me for the price on the database. Couldn't knock any £££ off.

They had a used red ED30 fully kitted out (satnav/dvd/highline/xenons/parking sensors/etc) for £22000 and were offering me a £2k discount. If it had been black, I'd have gone for it like a shot.

I asked a dealership a few days ago about this. :lipsrsealed:

They dont like to like randomjord said. It may be cheaper in liverpool but they said i may aswel travel there (north) and do the deal.

They cant nock off anything. The price is the price on their database sadly.

Must be a way though im sure
