can we have a photo comp
« on: 21 July 2006, 14:24 »
i was a member of an old forum and they used to have a photography competition with a theme at the basis of it.  one month it would be water then next electricity and the next greenery or what ever.

We can have a poll over what themes to use but basically every month all those wanting to enter the competition submitted their one photo to the thread and then the members voted on whose was the best/sweetest/well thought off etc etc.   obviously it is a competition and so there should be a prize and maybe some of the forum sponsors or companies could donate something small like a t-shirt/keyring/voucher (alloys/ leather retrim  ) or whatever they can offer as it better than a kick in the teeth. If there is enough interest or no one is willing to put anything up for winning just run the competition for the fun of it, but if a company offers something its getting publicity/advertising and then if the winning photo is of outstanding quality perhaps they could use it for internal newsletters, magazines or internal posters etc. who knows.

i have 2 ideas for this and there are pros and cons to both :

1. just do a photo competition with no photoshopping etc with a theme to it. this way anyone with a camera can have a go.

2. each month a selected VAG group car is chosen and the competitors have to photoshop a chosen image of the car to thier ideal with a theme behind it.  con is only those with photoshop skills can do it and those who are not too good on photoshop are unlikley to win, but both ideas could be used on an alternating rota or both in sequence.

i dont know if this has cropped up before but i havent seen it, so what do people reckon, i havent go the skills to create something like this but on the last forum i was a member of this was a very popular view and read and votes were cast in thier thousands. and the prizes ranged from 1st to 3rd with actual prices of free dump valve for what ever car or £50 off a revo remap etc, obviously this took a lot of organising but it creates that edge to the competition.  any pointers welcome and if someone wants to knock up a thread of the above then crack on and i will be more than happy to comment on it.

the way the old one was designed was open the thread and at the top of the page was a voting tab with all the competitiors names, scroll down to view all the pictures and decide on the best, then scroll back up and click on the name who you thought had the best photo, the voting tab would then disappear to reveal the stats of the voting and produce a 1st 2nd and 3rd list. at the end of the month the votes counted and you got a winner with runners up.  nothing to stop competitors from re-entering in the future comps.    what do peeps reckon??

I like the sound of the first idea, just a straight photo comp, I'd enter just for the fun of it

The photoshop one like you said only a limited number of people can enter, and a few people will always be wayyyy better than everyone else!

Competition prize bought, just need a suitably stupid theme for the first competition.

It will be just a straight photo comp, no photoshop, as that limits the users that can enter (me for starters!).

Will run it for at least a couple of months as well as getting people to do something on here takes time
