New Golf to be unveiled in Berlin
04 Sep 12
VW1171-12

New Golf is almost here... are you ready?

The very first images of the all new, seventh generation Golf will be published in the media tonight from 9pm, following an exclusive Press unveiling, which is taking place in Berlin.

We will publish additional details on the car and a number of images on Desktop on Thursday morning.

On the evening of the 26 September a press preview takes place at the Paris Motorshow, during the Volkswagen Group forum. The public will be able to see the car at the show from 29 September.

Full details of the UK specification and pricing will be released on 3 October with the open-for-order scheduled for mid-October, and the on-sale date will be early January 2013.

Should the press articles generate any queries from your customers, please handle these as you would for any forthcoming new models.

Golf MkVII information will also be available on www.volkswagen.co.uk from Wednesday morning.

So the usual evolution of the previous car then! I quite like it tbh, i don't really see the point of the little windows in front of the mirrors but the interior looks nice apart from the piano black plastics which will be a b!tch to keep clean and scratch free!

It seems to have a nice profile, i wonder if people will call this the mk6.5?

Nah cause this one is the true MK6 being an all new platform.

I like it. GTI should look sh!t hot.

Dash looks nice. I like the way the centre console is angled towards the driver.

Post by: carl1 on 04 September 2012, 19:15
Not to sure but im sure it will look better in another colour and in the flesh. I think it looks more like the mk6 more than the mk5 looks like a mk6 if you know what i mean , so it could be a mk5.8  Obviously different car underneath. I wonder if they'll have the cheek to put Monza's on the GTI, i think ill give it a miss tho unless its early 20k's (as the pigs fly past) especially with the rummoured 225 ps.

Instrument cluster is a surprise to me, thought some early spy pics of mules showed something different with the fuel and temp as a "string" at the bottom. Anyway, looks better the mk6 way.
Wheels look huge!

It looks dead lame but then I've never liked them when they first come out.
I much prefer the interior.

There is a countdown on this page  (http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.waz-online.de%2FWolfsburg%2FWolfsburg%2FVolkswagen%2FWeltpremiere-Der-neue-Golf%2FGolf-Liveticker-Proteste-von-Greenpeace) and it looks like the protesters have moved in

Wasn't sure about the black shiny inside either, you would need to see it in the flesh.

Is that the start button to the left of the gear stick?

Probably the electronic handbrake.

Golf R diesel?!?

From http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/2013-volkswagen-golf/volkswagen-golf-mk7-engine-line-announced

Sources close to VW engineering chief Ulrich Hackenberg also say there are moves to introduce a new performance-orientated Golf R diesel. Nothing is official at this stage, but talk centres around a twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre engine producing up to 222bhp.

I kinda like it but will still have to see one in the flesh to make final judgement...But first impressions are good...

I'm not overly impressed so far by the photos but its always difficult to tell at this stage until its seen in the flesh.

I'm sure it will grow on me and the new platform will be an improvement on an already fantastic car.

But what do I know....I've brought a fugly 1 series

I like that, I think the GTI will look good too.  Who's going to be the first here to photo shop some Monza II's on that pic... and maybe drop it a little.

Zaragoza, are you going Lee?

Golf 'RD.....bring back the 4 motion diesel, good choice in my book!

The 3 door seems to have lost that "kicked-up" look on the rear glass that the MKV/VI has had:

Think it looks brilliant. Looking at the side picture to the rear it has a look of the mark 1 mark 4 Golf. The interior looks to have taken a big leap forward very Audi looking. Thumbs up from me.
Title: Re: MK7...............
Post by: dubber36 on 05 September 2012, 14:32
I sent the pictures to a mate at Honda R&D who worked on the current and previous Civic, suggesting that's what a medium sized, family hatch should look like. In the past he admitted that the current Civic would struggle due to its looks, but today reckoned the Golf 7 was "as dull as ditch water and far too conservative"

I know which one will still look good in 10 years time tho'.
Title: Re: MK7...............
Post by: Exonian on 05 September 2012, 14:47
Hmmm, well, I won't be rushing down to the showroom to order a mk7 but I do like the look of it so far.
The good news from a mk6 owner's point of view is that the looks are still pretty similar to the untrained eye so that means mk6 values shouldn't drop too suddenly as it still has the current family nose and arse end.
The 3 door mk7 looks loads better with the mk1 style window line. I never did like the mk5 3 door as it made a long car look too plump.
I'll pay close attention to what sort of prices the mk7 GTI/D comes in at and maybe get a few speculative prices from a dealer at launch to see if it's worthwhile but I don't think it's the giant leap people would have you believe seeing as the mk5 and mk6 are pretty accomplished cars anyway.
I still have a mk6 R itch to scratch... there's one been hanging around a dealer not too far from me for a while now... DSG too...

Anyway, cautious thumbs up from me for the mk7

A Golf is a Golf whichever model, or however old it is and will always get the knowing nod of recognition from those who appreciate that. Most VW owners aren't the sort of people that must been seen to have the latest thing at whatever cost, so you'll do just fine in your Ed35 for many years to come.

We all like Golfs, therefore it's highly likely we'll mostly like the 7. I certainly like the look of the car.

But as I've always said, it'll come down to price. I still think it'll be £27k plus at which point I am struggling to get on with it, no matter how much I like it. There's a hell of  lot of nearly new kit (or even new kit) out there at that price.

Quarter lights more blind spots. The reason I did not buy a mk2 leon. The reason I wont be buying a mk7 golf.

Silly electric handbrake too.

Glad to see they have dumped the disaster of a twincharger and redesigned the troublesome 2.0 TDI.

See attached page from Auto Bild in Germany. I've highlighted the bits we've not really seen before.

http://www.autobild.de/artikel/vw-golf-vii-pro-und-contra-3586828.html

On the video Winterkorn calls it "our most beautiful Golf ever". The commentator says you wouldn't even notice it on the streets it's that similar to previous Golfs!! Interesting.

zur Bildgallerie = pictures
zur Videoseite = video of last night's reveal
mehr zum Thema = more on individual bits

What Auto Bild like :-

the front quarter light lets in light
a lower lip on the boot than the current model
other stuff we all know about

What they don't like :-

base model has noticeably more hard plastic nor even a radio
most assist systems are extra cost options
the rear seat back is split but not the seat itself
visibility past the A pillar is a weakness
electronic handbrake
the fancy shaped petrol cap
Bluemotion version not out til the middle of 2013
the price of the entertainment systems - they call them "deftig" i.e. "whopping"
Eine Navigationsfunktion kostet weitere 505 Euro und beinhaltet Karten-Updates für drei Jahre. Das Top-System mit allem Schnickschnack und 8 Zoll-Display kostet 2725 Euro (mit Navi) = a navigation upgrade costs 505 Euros including card updates for three years. The top system with 8 inch screen costs £2725 Euros.

I'm a Mk5 Edition 30 owner, and so far, I far prefer the look of that car to what I've seen of the Mk7 gti so far.

Funnily enough, my car seems more modern looking. I've got a white one, and it hasn't stopped looking like a stormtrooper yet.

Please let me fall in love with the mk7.. please!

Oh no!

Oh no! No sooner than I am starting to get a bit worried about the next choice of car, and look what BMW are cooking up:

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/paris-motor-show-2012/bmw-concept-active-tourer-previews-front-drive-future

(No idea if or when this will be a reality, but it makes the new Golf Mk7 (at least the ordinary one) look a bit, well, erm ordinary.

I usually hate BMWs too. Wouldn't touch a one series with a bargepole, specially with its new face which looks like it got hit in the face with a spanner.

No pressure VW...

Evo - any guess estimates when examples for people to sit in \ look at will be hitting the UK dealers?

Personally for me I'd want to see a 5 door one in cold steel. It's got to make me go wow I want one of them before I pop a deposit on the car (reading that back - doesn't sound right!  :embarrassed:).
Errr.... anyway.. for me it's got some tough competition next year as wife really likes the mk6 gti (she's it's main driver). When we first saw the mk6 in black with 18inch  shadow monza's with the tasty updated interior, (and a quick test drive), it had that wow! factor, put a huge smile on the face, which then resulted in deposit being  placed then about a 9 or 10 month wait ensued.

Suspect it would be up against a fairly short list a new shape S3, new shape Merc A class AMG, would like to dabble with a TT RS or go totally mad with an R8 but she prefs 5 door hatch backs. (don't like focus \ astra \ 1 series).

Will look forward to seeing in for real.

New Golf: revolutionary technology, evolutionary design
03 Oct 12
VW1295-12

The new Golf – the MkVII – is a game-changer. It redefines its class by showcasing technologies that, until now, were only available in upper segments. And it’s underpinned by the revolutionary MQB platform, which will form the basis of a number of Volkswagens of all sizes: from Polo to Passat.

It’s the latest evolution of a modern classic, the most important model in the Volkswagen range, and set to further build on the 29 million global sales notched up since the first Golf rolled off the production line in 1974.

Overview
Prices start at £16,330 for a 1.2TSI 85PS three-door
Opens for ordering on 18 October
Retailers’ cars will arrive in the first week of January 2013
On sale Monday 7 January 2013
Three trim lines at launch, in three- and five-door versions: S, SE and GT
BlueMotion, GTI and GTD versions will follow in mid-2013
Best-selling 1.6TDI 105PS engine now only emits 99g/km of CO2, making it exempt from road tax and the congestion charge
Fuel consumption has improved by an average of 14 per cent across the range
Features a number of innovative new safety systems, many of which are fitted as standard
Insurance ratings have improved by between two and 13 groups across the range
Residual values (RVs) improve to 47 per cent (for the most popular version, the 1.6TDI SE 105PS)

£24,625 for the DSG 2.0-litre TDI.

Is this correct?!?!

Will the GTI be close to £30k then?

Yes thats the right price so £435 more than the outgoing model but you gain parking sensors, auto headlights etc, Sat nav, Ambient lighting, ADC cruise control, City emergency braking, electric folding mirrors, paddle shift on steering wheel, touch screen radio, 2 x sd card readers. Downside you loose leather........

I'm hoping that VW listen to the market and make a few more things standard rather than poverty spec with lots of ££ options.

Xenons; Basic Navigation; Parking Sensors should all be standard IMO

Don't mind paying a little more for other things then such as a sunroof; bum warmers etc.

Having recently looked at 5 or 6 different manufacturers closely, they all seem to give a basic car with £££ expected for even the simplest option.

Yeah ordered a factory A1 mainly due to the kids pressurising me  :undecided:
However after seeing the offers of £2k dealer contribution and a great PCP % rate being offered for all golfs, if I could cancel my order I would.
Or it may even be worthwhile losing the £1k deposit!?

I personally hope they DON'T include parking sensors as I don't like the look of them. For resale yes it would be good but I hate having the little circles all over the car. Xenons as std would be nice, as would nav. We'll see!

Leather on an SE will be £2050.00 or £1830.00 on the GT.

If you want 12 way electrically adjustable memory seats with leather, it's £2475.00 or £2150.00 respectively.

Jesus wept. If you want leather, you better start saving, or wait 4 years for them to inclued it as standard when we start thinking about what the Mk8 will look like.

I reckon nav, parking and  xenons as standard on the GTI/D's

  • LED option.  (Have you seen some of those volvo blinders, ouch)
  • Range of special paints to give it a snappy look.
  • Carbon Fiber roof option.
  • Cheaper Leather Option than the GT
  • Extra Supportive Seat Package option (maybe)
  • Fingers crossed for 4-motion GTD before a 4-motion 'RD

LOL

Looks good specs, happy to see that cruise control is now standard as always thought it was a little cheap of vw not to include something as basic as cruse control as standard on such an expensive car.

Think will wait and see what it looks like in the flesh. Hmmm,.... Thinking it through the one thing that will kill it for me is any stupid wait times. Not the actual fact of waiting, but if dealers keep bouncing my slot over and over again. Think we all encountered this when getting out mk6's.
Can't be bothered to go through  all that hassle and bullsh!t from the dealers again.  That's probably the 1 major put off for me re another golf gti. Car is great, buying experience is painful.

EVO mag have a short "Driven" review of the new Mk 7 1.4 TSi GT this month.

They give it 4/5 and say :-

- bigger than a Mk 6, more cabin & boot space
- up to 100kg lighter than the Mk 6 due to lighter body structure and lighter engines
- corners very competently, less understeer and body roll & slightly more agility (lighter)
- more fun than the new Audi A3
- remains the default hatchback - far more able all rounder than a Focus or Astra
- plenty of promise for the sportier models to come

If I was any good at English I would write long review ; ) certainly agree felt much more nimble than my 35. Had good test on track with cornering through slalom gates and braking hard whilst steering and coped extremely well. Beautifully quite and refined, love the electric handbrake and can't wait to swap mine in for mk7 GTI. I will get one ordered in the summer for when my 35 goes back in October. My only concern is that the GTI might be too refined because I love the rumble of the old engine : ) discover pro nav is awesome piece of kit and probably now just about justifiable to spend money on.

Have some allocation to use up this month so if people are considering ordering let me know and will see what deal we can come up with.

Isn't that why we buy Golfs?

If we wanted a raw, focused, definitive hot hatch, we'd buy something from Renaultsport. We don't tho' because for the 95% of the time you're not on a mission, they are sh1t.

Evo1986- thanks for the pictures.

At least one thing is cleared up. I like white cars, but not this pearly oryx white. See? Money saved already!

The question is whether I can hold out till the Edition 40 comes out... (Got an edition 30, which is making it very easy to not consider buying anything in too much of a hurry)

The more I look at it the more I can feel myself wanting yet another white one, oh dear! The light grey, is that kind of between the reflex silver and tungsten that you get on the mk6 cab? The reason I was asking is that mrs ginges cab doesn't show up the dirty water spray at all and if we're available on he mk7 it would be a no brainer for me.

Great photos Evo just wish I had looked at this thread eelier before ordering. Don’t like the wheels on the dark blue one is that an SE model. God I pray my set of alloys fit on mark 7 either that or its new wheels

Did you get to sit in the SE model ? The silver dash is that plastic or real brushed aluminum ?

Dash is plastic... GT gets fingerprint prone gloss black.
