Well it took less than 24 hours since the polo was sold.
New wheels are on the drive in the form of a WAGON
J Reg, 61k mile FSH verified 2.0 CL
returned 37.6 mpg on the journey home today,( on the fully functioning MFA)
like driving in an armchair on a canalboat ( its as long as one. )
with the wind in what hair i have thru the operational electric tilt n slide roof.
just dumped it on the drive for now - the call of the club is strong and BEER.
So, piccies from the seller ( camera phone ) with the only real bodywork issue that i can find

and from the camera when i got home including a WEDGE of history all a a dealer - its an Ex doctors car , one year it only did 1500 miles

-
Something different, don't see many now.
-

I nearly got a B3 Passat 2.0 8v but the interior was in terrible condition, bits were falling off all over the place! Outside is was alright, needed a few bits seen to but overall ok. Was fantastic to drive though  Looking forward to seeing this develop!

yes Toph :afro: , weitec coilies are meant to be here tomorrow, just got to get round to fitting them .
The good old mr mew did me a FEW chops, and the 12 clicks one is a TAD too low
So the RS4s are now up for grabs - that will fund the replcements for the Golf who now looks really sad on 195/65-14s ,and i can only get 1/4 of a turn on the steering before some serious scrubbage
-
just got to get round to fitting them .
want to do mine too? mk4 is looking range roverish :lipsrsealed:
-
well i been told mine is easy apart from stripping out ALL the boot trim and plastics

Cool!
I think the G60's suit well. Your MK2 is perfect IMO. Even though I've seen some show worthy cars, that MK2 is my favorite. I have a soft touch for MK2's, kinda miss mine already, I've only just bought a 1.8 MK3. What I done?
-
You chopped in a MK2 for a MK3? are you clinically insane?
1.0L MK2 > 2.0L 8v MK3 and any sub spec MK3's.
-
1.8............... Auto :lipsrsealed:

and you walked away with brown boxers

SSW speeds would look ace I had them on my mk3.
-
I think fitting them to your Passat is a dumb-f*ck idea.
£10 says they must weigh 10-15kg, so they'll junk the any handling that might still be lying about. You'll split the sidewalls on the cr@p tyres on any corrugation you find in the road and the limp-wristed 115bhp lump in the front will have trouble rotating them in the first place, as they look like they'll have a higher rolling radius than the current wheels.
Have you bought them yet then?

They are not that heavy, I had a set, very high quality wheel.
-
I think those wheels look pretty damn cool. I really like them.
-
Well wheelweights.net lists no 17" SSW rims under 8.2 kg and quite a number over 9kg.
Hardly feather-weight.

im sure chuff is going to use the wagon on several track days...

Does that really matter on a Passat estate. :undecided:

Unsprung weight ALWAYS matters.

aah dh unsprung weight, the golden chalice
gyroscopic forces within a turning wheel eh?

I love you
rolling radius would be the same the standard fitment, unlike the bbs fitted at the mo.
115, is it meant to have that many  :lipsrsealed:
No, just viewing :lipsrsealed:
Once you add my unsprung weight in, NOWT else matters, you should know that, i get in your car and now it KNOCKS on the near side
i did consider 13s to get it lower, what do you think to that Mr hell
-
shep, if i can geta mk3 gti box fitted, then i AM considering track days

Not keen on them something smaller & wider perhaps?

shep, if i can geta mk3 gti box fitted, then i AM considering track days
then i retract all sarcasm from my previous statement

shep, if i can geta mk3 gti box fitted, then i AM considering track days
[Harry Enfield 'considerably richer than you bloke'] I think you'll find your 'box is a cable-changer. Unless you're proposing to get a 16V 'box fitted (which is quite leggy), you'll be making a 'rod' for your own back with that idea [/Harry Enfield 'considerably richer than you bloke']
I hope you applied the right brummie accent in your head.
Wot you need is some sort of ETKA monkey to tell you whether there are any shorter final drive cable changers out there which might suit.
Thing is, if you're taking the gearbox out anyway......
-
it will be whatever is fitted to your ABF
-
The sprung weight will be HUGE!

Well, had a day off, so decided that i would treat the old girl,
Job 1. Oil and Filter change, - Easily sorted.
Job 2. New Discs n pads on the front - Nice shiney Brembo's
Everything came apart easily, even the discs retaining screws came out
Then i thought, may aswell drop the old girl a tad . - HOW i wish i hadnt
Both fronts were fine, crub screw undone and they turned by hand after a quick soak with lube
OSR was a bit more of an issue, but after a bit of APPLIED PRESSURE it soon freed off,
THEN THE NIGHTMARE - the NSR was seized SOLID
C spanner was useless, ALL the variations of C spanner and Union connection spanners from work, chain wrench & strap wrench ALL FAILED
So it was time to take the tripod for a drive  :lipsrsealed:
It eventually gave way using a somewhat unusual tool for the job, but thank fook for late night opening halfrauds.

knocking underneath has been getting worse , so it was time to investigate - not easy on a very very long a low motor, so out came shady and his identical brothers

centre box looks v good, until you feel around the flanges, - yep sure enough, its cracked / rusted all tround the welds.
New centre box time, just got to find a garage with a low enough ramp

well a few quid later and the old girl is back on form, no blowing exhaust
-
well after the recent rain, the roads round here are now potholed beyond belief and flooded on a regular basis, so i raised the old girl up a bit.
and subsequently snapped the exhaust in half
so today, went to have the new one fitted, and shall be going back AGAIN on friday to have yet another one fitted :lipsrsealed:
thats if i can find out what the little rattle that turned into a BIG clunking from the Drivers side of the BOOT

Old cars are always fun!
Hope ya get it sorted.

well took the old girl back to the exhaust place and the next back box was just as bad.
Fit is perfect, no knocking or owt, it was just the angle the tailpipe came out at, so out came the gas torch
as good as the old original exhuast was
(http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp359/chuffs69/DSCF3197.jpg)
and the new ride height - up about an inch

Went out to the garage , and she was sat there all covered in Crud off the road from when i took her out ploughing :lipsrsealed:
Jumped in, and she failed to start, then just went clickity click. then the alarm went off, and where was the REMOTE for the alarm, god only knows
So out came the trusty trade card, and a FULL power battery was sourced for a greatly reduced price, and all is well in the world again

Well what a day,
MOT - Passed - result - well of sorts, what it didnt find is the cause of a knock i have from the NSF strut / leg but hey, a pass with no advisories all the same .
then it was home to play musical bumpers
front done no bother, looking good even if i couldnt get the in bumper lights to work . Summat to address later.
Rear came off easily enough apart from getting covered in 19 years worth of crud . Got the replacement with the VERY HEAVY towbar in place and lined up and the bolts just in loose. Then it started to go wrong. :lipsrsealed:
For those that dont know, the bolts that hold the assembly on go horizontal from in the boot wells into fully enclosed chambers into captive nutz on the assembly itself . ( yes - you can see where its going ) 2 bolts per side, just using a rachet ring spanner and i get a feeling that we dont seem to be getting anywhere. I know i will try one on the other side . AT NO POINT was excessive force required. But yes, the Bolts were just spinning, the nutz had made a break for freedom, and I know had a bolt either side with NO WAY whatsoever to get at the Nutz.
And yes, the bumper was flopping about like a big floppy thing .
Thankfully, after some Chuffmeistering, the bolts and now removed, the old bumpers removed and the old girl is back to her original glory . 4 hours wasted - but hey ho, she's got 12 months ticket
-
I got to the captive nut bit and I was like uhhhh ohhhh.. Glad you sorted it now tho.
-
yeah my mate was the same to rob .
then he stood and watched the engineering bodging skills go to work
amazing what wedging spanners under the head of a bolt and an impact gun can achieve
just been out and swapped the vr6 passat top mounts over, checked the seating of the springs etc and the knocking seems to have gone.
Fingers crossed

Hairy muff :)
I've noticed the centre of your wheels is different to mine.. the bit that goes in from the spokes towards the wheel bolts.. on your wheels it's more obvious whereas mine curves in gradually.. if you get me?

going well man, a guy from a vxr forum follwed me home for about a mile yesterday just so he could speak to me about the car and stuff and it turns out theres quite a few differnt vxrs around which is nice.
-
well after a bit of a disaster when fitting the rear wheels cos the rear hub nut cover came thru the hole too far to allow the badge / centre cap to be fitted,
and a call to CADES direct with a far from helpful reply of SPACE the wheels out
me and a lad at work got our heads together - then " sourced a very handily sized round object and Ta Da.
so the fronts now look like
(http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp359/chuffs69/DSCF3382.jpg)
and the rears
(http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp359/chuffs69/DSCF3381.jpg)
FAR from ideal I know, but i wasnt going to be running round with the hub nut cover sticking thru on the rears.

I reckon a colour code wouldn't go a miss actually. Nonetheless, looking good Mr. chuff.
-
That's pretty poor service from them...
-
oh dont worry jay, they will be getting a letter
just had an email from the company i bought from, I asked them if they do a deeper cap ? or cades ?

touched a nerve i see, dint mean to, dont hate anything, not even DH, too much of a strong word
id be a arse kisser if i said otherwise re the rims, i just think they just look way out of place, too small, too much rubber, Gold against the blue, its all wrong, dare i say they even look a bit halfords.. i know they are the same as joes but his jsut dont look like yours at all
a set of 928's would have been champion on your car, as u say each to their own, was just my 2p, i didnt post when i first saw then as i thought id give them a chance.. cannot be no more fair than that and i certainly didnt post to cause a argument with any of the goon squad
if your happy its all good
P.S been different is not getting same rims as JOE
-
fcuk me you think too deep, or are too touchy
erm, joes wheels are on a GOLF

Nice to see people going for different colours on their wheels
I bet they look even better in the flesh.

who said totally, they would be one off spec made wheels would they not ?
and mine are in some ways , they have UNIQUE centre cap spacers on the rear ( unless we start selling them  )
and if you read the thread who said i was happy with them  colour coding is in the pipeline
-
what size are they chuff? 15's?
-
Chuff, touchy? bwahahahahahaha! That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. sirius.
-
yes mate, i tried 16s from a mate ( porka rims actually - ) and clearance issues as it is often loaded up so stuck with 15s so it can go lower again once i have done some bush upgrades
-
Chuff, touchy? bwahahahahahaha! That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. sirius.
perhaps its cos of the pink and fluffy course i had to go on, touching was mentioned , but they said it wasnt allowed
-
I havent read all this thread and just had a flick through the last few pages.I think the wheels look nice to be honest and the colour works pretty well.I had 15" ATS cups on my wagon and I got some mixed views but smaller wheels and slammed on wagons work well
-
thanks - i did have a set of cups lined up but then another b3 turned up with them on, so went a different route
some like, some hate dislike - gives people summat to talk about
and she will be going DOWN this weekend hopefully
-
I had D90s on my old 16v and dont get me wrong they looked really nice and Im not slagging them ff in any way but my car drove pretty pants with them on couldnt really throw it about to much and the tyres were that low profile if I hit a bump I thought my car was gonna fall to bits lol.I sold them and fitted some BBS 15" of a VR6 and the car drove sooo much better and I got it down alot lower without any arch work...
-
well no going back now, BBS just been collected
and running the tyre size i am throws the speedo out a bit, but the ride is nice for a long low n slow wagon
-
Not gonna lie, yesterday I thought the wheels were shat.
Too small, wrong colour but today from that side shot I think they really work and look good. :undecided:

well the coilies are seized solid, but they are third hand so it is to be expected  and as they are wietec the plastic adjusting ring is how shall we put it, disintergrating  :lipsrsealed:
Anyone now if weitec do an overhaul service ?
-
I find it kinda odd that Weitec's use plastic rings.
I am 99% sure that someone on either VWVortex or E38 did a coilover service, pretty sure it was E38. I'll ask around for you.
-
new adjusters being sourced from KW as we speak,
talked themselves out of overhauling them
strip them, clean them, cut old rings off,
fit new, slam its arse as far down as my balloon  tyres allow

pink wheels ftw

Bike > T4
My dad hated it when I got a car.. he would have much preferred me to continue the family tradition of bikes!
I didn't because I like the sports bikes or trial bikes, so not really practical and would cost enough to mean that I couldn't have a car as well :(

T25 + Subaru Turbo motor. You knows it makes sense.
As for bikes..... thought you'd given up being a live organ donor?
Or of course, you'd have to man-up and get to Germany to do it properly.
-
hello thomas  the t4 would become my commuting vehicle or sorts too. so alas ascooby lumped t25 would be nice but not practical
i had given up, but the urge is strong - need summat to occupy my time i think - mmmmmmmmm golf 3 project maybe :lipsrsealed:
yes yes - have done germany on a bike, just not the ring
-
Ahhh but have you done any of the Eifel region around the 'ring?
Better than Wales :lipsrsealed:
How about a 2.2 NA Subaru T25? With an LSD (AAR code) transaxle?

a slight delay in the wheels returning, and a complete lack of interest in doing anything to the old girl means she had a quick wash down and is dumped in the garage.

as the saloon isnt selling - it could be time for this one to go back on the market. :lipsrsealed:

Well after much soul searching, a LOT of advice from people & then getting 3 yes 3 signs from the car . . . .
i have had to remove it from sale
&
Take it off the road for the foreseeable future :embarassed:
the signs
1, an oil leak - still to be investigated - but the 500+ miles i did in it at the weekend and the oil has dropped from max to just above minimum - and i can't sell summat like that
B, Rear wheel bearing (s) - to say i had to have the stereo on LOUD to cover up the noise on the way home is an understatement
iii, the alternator light now won't go out - again summat to investigate
added to the tax expiring in 2 weeks & the insurance the month after I have conceeded defeat and am mothballing it
the plan - dont know - will need to look into the problems and go from there to be fair
It will get robbed of its stereo, maybe even the Reg Plate but the money i will save from Tax and reducing the insurance to garage cover only will at least free up the cash to fix the easier of the 3 problems.
Prepare for a sad lookin 'ssat tucked away on some ropey old wheels very soon
-
Oil leak? ABF! Piece of pee with your electrics as well! Would really make it something special and unique.
Nick
-
and i was expecting that from Mr Hell or 1.8T from Mr Topher
-
He wasn't quick enough
nick
-
I think it's happy times since you are keeping one of the coolest cars on the forum  It also sounds like tea time. What kind of tea? VR6T
-
I can ask if my mate fancies doing you a conversion if you like Chuff. Will be around the 2k mark with warranty.
Will let you know how well mine turns out though first :lipsrsealed:
-
74 pages to find out youve pulled the plug of getting shot of it !!!
Give her a decent burial chuff!!
-
Easy easy easy. Swap the engine from the loon in!!
-
*cough* 4 signs, all the above = the sign she doesnt want you to sell!
-

-
srs? how comes?
-
well she could have gone to far - breaking her is now a serious option :smug:
NOT an option... surly she's too solid for that!
-

-
well she could have gone to far - breaking her is now a serious option :smug:

well she could have gone to far - breaking her is now a serious option :smug:
NO!
well heres the thing - no one wants to buy it in the SPEC i wanna sell it .
now its started playing me up
so even if i fix it all up - i still wont be able to sell it
so, i can rob key bits for the saloon,
sell the rest - as a lot of parts are becoming hard to source.
end up with a nice saloon once finished and no hassle of having to sell the repaired motor.
-
You always knew it'd be a hard car to shift though Chuff. The right buyer WILL come along.
-
so are ya keeping the 'loon now?
think the estate is nicer tbh, or do ya have no need for an estate now?
-
i want neither rob - but had more interest in the 'loon if it was modified should we say :undecided:
-
ahh, i see, bit of a pain for ya then!!
did ya put it on edition, surely someone would have it off ya even with the problems there!!
cat believe your struggling to get rid tbh!
as said, those problems cant be too bad hopefully, a days work maybe but if ya sell it fixed..?
-
So is the loon getting the slamming she deserves?
-
nope - she has got the clean and de-dog she deserved - now has the tunes she deserves - and might even get th e plate that she certainly DOESNT deserve
-
nope - she has got the clean and de-dog she deserved - now has the tunes she deserves - and might even get th e plate that she certainly DOESNT deserve
lol. Just a temporary plate swap then. Harvest the organs from the loon to sort the wagon. Shift the wagon, then vr and slam the loon.

then it was a quick road test and the whining noise has gone :afro:

Nick

So - what to do with it :undecided:  got 2 weeks to decide once i have got the Turbo wagon home and checked over.
-
Nice shiney bit shot.
I'm liking those standards to be honest.
-
I'd say keep it since it's such a tidy example of a well modded B3. Even if you must sell then sell it complete and original rather than breaking.
-
What was causing the leak?? Glad you got it sorted anyway!
Slightly off topic, in the pic below how did you get the car on the ramps like that?? They're facing different directions :undecided:

Seriously, sell it complete. It's far too much hassle to break and then wait for all the bits to go
-
i thought that too ben,
but i have a buyer for
4 doors
whole interior
engine
rear beam
suspension
after that the rest i can store easy after weighing the shell in :lipsrsealed:
-
Hmm, well if it's one person that wants that lot and they're reliable then that'll help, but i still say complete.
Have you put it on pistonheads?
-
thrown it back into the garage til the new wagon arrives and i am happy with it.
will go from there - need toswap the plate off it too
-
what sort of cash would you be wanting for it chuff?
not for me but might know someone who could be interested
-
as is vaughn - let us know if he wants is wheels the lot and i will let ya know

Seems a shame to break it.

Dan

she still gets driven - once a week - all legal and roadworthy.
But yeah, the new one wins the prefered ride - will do even more when the I.C.E. gets transfered over
