GTD paticulate warning
« on: 06 January 2015, 16:59 »
A warning has just appeared on the GTD about particulate filter. I know this is the DPF needing cleared. Is this a dealer job or just take for a decent run, if a drive then how long and what type of driving is best?

Highish revs for about 20 mins. I think it's in the handbook. How old is your car and what driving style does it get?

1800 to 2500 revs for around 20 mins on a warm engine, at a decent speed 5th (50-60mph) or 6th gear 65+, screaming 2nd at 35mph won't cut it.  Have you changed fuels lately (from a usual kind?), or have been doing a lot of short journeys over the Christmas period if you weren't at work?

Cheers guys.

A lot of round town driving. Car is 11 months old.

It has been parked for about 2 weeks over Christmas and then my wife has used it on the school runs from yesterday morning.

Went a nice steady drive there in 4th gear and the warning has gone.

Tells you in handbook, car must be driven at continuous high revs, if you let revs drop the regeneration process is interrupted. One of the reasons I don't buy diesels. :)

Short journeys hasn't done mine any harm at all so no reason to not but a diesel! They aren't like the previous oil burners.

I think mine's a lot worse for regens than the previous 6 TDIs, I never once had a forced regen in the Scirocco 170, nor overrun of the fans following a journey. It's a regular occurrence now, but wasn't so much before my first service - things were definitely changed, more regens and extra thirst coincided with my first service.

Sometimes I wonder if changes were made because of some engine management parameters in place as a result of the Trevor box - like the car's ecu logged it running leaner than was the norm (because of the fooling the box does to the turbo sensor and common rail)?

That's why I wanted to come up and see you matt. Mine had an over boost error logged which I cleared before it's service and I'm wondering if this because of the box.

Any time you like Chris. But better make it this week or a few weeks time because the rear end bump is finally getting fixed next week.
