Wrong part, or owner incompetence?
« on: 28 October 2008, 20:43 »
Hello all, been lurking here for a while now, and picked up some v.useful stuff.

Today however, I'm at a loss. Ordered a new MAF sensor for my 2001 1.8T, and after being given a map sensor (easy enough mistake to make I suppose) I got the part today. Removed the old one as per the guide, and the new one fitted the airbox and TIP like a charm.
Last of all was plugging it back in - the plug doesn't fit!

The old fitting is squared at one side and rounded at the other, while the new one is totally rectangular and much smaller. Both have the same 4 bladed connections, it's just the housings that are different.

Old part no:  06A 906 461 LX
New part no: 06A 906 461 CX

Is anyone able to tell me if what I had to begin with was OE, before I go all half cocked at the stealers?

Thanks

Bloody dealers indeed! I'll be chapping the door at ten to eight tomorrow!

Thanks for the help, I was sure that easy to follow guide in the maintenance section couldn't be wrong

Well.  Got it changed no bother (no apology though) and fitted. Now car idles quite erratically, but seems better once on the move. What worries me though is that when pressing on at 3.5k+ the power comes in surges, almost in a harmonic way. Could this be a symptom of something expensive?

Did the car do this before fitting the new maf? Why have you replaced the maf?

It did do this before, but I'm noticing it more now, but perhaps that's all in my head... Replaced the MAF as it had never had a new one and was pretty rough for the first 5-10 mins in the mornings. (now it's fine starting from cold). Getting VAGCOM fault codes from an independent garage on Tues - is £50 + VAT a bit excessive for that?

I've only had the car a few months, and finding it's good bits more and more, so perhaps being a little bit too critical? :undecided:
