bit Jekyll and Hyde my motoring on a GTD manual..

I did have one salesman say to me that I would likely see "better economy from the 170 unit than raggin' the nuts off a blue motion model" if I was doing longer distance in real world driving.

Was that me? It is true : )

I can return 60mpg on average over a 110 mile trip on the motorway on a none winter morning at a steady 70mph. And that is literally sitting at 70mph the entire way on cruise and only slowing down if I cannot pull out to the middle of far lanes and then bringing it back to 70 using the resume feature.

Alas it wasn't, actually, well you might have done but my giddy excitement of picking her up might have made me forget that particular conversation.

It was the same guy who said he always now asked what profession someone did when he was out on a test drive after once saying to a traffic officer he "shouldn't worry the Scirocco has a small rear view mirror, you don't buy a car like this to look backwards!!"  .. Brilliant!

I am ashamed to be driving a golf match 1.6 tdi blue motion dsg. It is not the best on fuel! Although I have only just cracked the 200 mile barrier in it. Will keep people up to date with it's mpg. At this stage I can say my revo'd Gtd was more economical.

I have just had 3 weeks in a 2000 mile old Match 1.6 TDI BMT (manual)

I did around 1300 miles of mainly rural journeys driving it as I would my own 2.0 GT TDI. The 1.6 indicated 58.4mpg on the trip computer. The 2.0 usually betters that by doing 60mpg over a full tank of diesel according to the trip, but when worked out mathematically, the reality is 57mpg. Very roughly, that would give the 1.6 a true average of 55mpg.

I did one journey of around 20 miles, just following the lines of lorrys on an A road, and saw nearly 80mpg. The 2.0 will do that as well.

I concluded that anything other than stop start town driving, the 1.6 with BMT is a load of b0llox. I'd rather spend the extra few quid and £90 RFL and have a bit more grunt.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

My 140 TD was seeing figures of 50mpg on my journey to work every day, with one 3 mile motorway stretch being extremely spirited.
Now on the exact same journey I'm lucky if it hits the 40mpg mark.  This is since it had its 2nd year service.

Are the dealers likely to have altered something to decrease the mpg so dramatically?

In fact I had it up to 70mpg once on some town driving but again after the recent service I'm lucky if it hits 40 odd in the town!!!

Thats fantastic really 925 miles to a tank. 50mph is the optimum speed obviously.
