GT2860RS turbo'd APY MK2
« on: 05 March 2011, 10:14 »
Hi,

Obviously I'm new on here but not to VW's I passed my test in a Mk1 Golf driver (quite some time ago now!) and never looked back!

Over the years I've had a few..

Mars red Mk1 1.3 Golf driver
Black Mk3 polo GT
Black Mk1 polo GT! LHD
Terracotta Mk3 polo breadvan
Purple Edition 1 G60 LHD  which had a 12v VR6 engine (flew to Germany and drove it home)
Blue Mk2 Caddy van
Black Mk3 Polo G40
Sliver Mk1 Audi S3
Blue VR6 T4 campervan
Black T5 3.2 V6 Multivan
Black Audi A3 2.0T - still got
Black Mk2 8v Gti - (undergoing surgery)

This is my first project of this size, I've never removed or fitted an engine before  :undecided:

Here is the progress so far....

This is how she was standard:

Had it stripped in a jiffy:

Add one APY S3 to the mix:

Which also ended up in bits:

Sourced a suitable replacement turbo for the cracked K04 - Garret Disco potato

Had some of the front end cleaned up:

Got some more suitable brakes and coilovers:

Cleaned up the engine, added G60 flywheel, VR6 LUK clutch and G60 02A box (CBA code)

Test fit - vibra technics mounts

JBS Manifold clears - turbo in and clearing, but downpipe looks like a pig to make....

Tight and no off the shelf downpipes available? Seems stupid to sell the manifold and no downpipe

View when out of the car:

Turbo is clearly much bigger than the K04:

I ignore the downpipe dilemma, and forged ahead with the rest - rad/cooler and wiring etc.. starting to look like a car again.

Tried out the new rims... umm... kinda low??

Downpipe made!! 2.5" Stainless bends, bit of cutting and welding and job done - test fit looks good and also has the 2 o2 bungs for the stock o2 sensor and my innovate wideband AF ratio sensor.

Started like this:

Ended up like this:

Bit of weldin to join the gaps, add the sensor bungs and the vband to connect to the rest of the exhaust:

Off to fit it all up and give her a start up - wish me luck!!
