New Mk7 in 23 months at Frankfurt.
Golf R on the road early 2010.  This is the expensive, harsh and loud 4WD enthusiasts car.
One or two specials, perhaps 240 bhp. At a £2000 premium to winkle the cash from GTI fans who couldn't wait for the Mk7.

As far as the car above the R is concerned, when the Golf was launched there was talk of two models above the GTI.

A run-out edition GTI with a similar output to the Scirocco R would be the most likely second model (as they did with the Mk4 Anni and Mk5 Ed30).

A Golf with 340 bhp would be a mighty beast, no?

A TTRS engined Golf would be superb. Sadly I reckon the ecomony, emissions, purchase price and Audi will mean this engine never makes it into a production Golf. Most R owners will tune their 2.0T rather than transplant what is likely to remain a rare and expensive engine - you will be able to get 330bhp from the Golf R.

We'll just have to wait for someone to wreck a TTRS I guess

I was being nice.... will be good to see one on the road though. I just want to know how it sounds

VW reduced production this year in line with depressed demand. Now that optimism is returning in Europe and the US, (count out the UK because we are so in the red that God knows what's going to happen), demand for new cars will force VW to ramp up production. My prediction is that we'll see delivery times stick to 12 weeks by March.
