Looking for an electrical guru somewhere close to Bexleyheath, Kent or Brighton, East Sussex.
Long story short.
Golf GTD MK6, everything was working perfectly (this is my mother in law's car)
Leak through sunroof, water down the dash.
Car refused to start, then wouldn't turn off and tried to start itself (starter motor burnt out and has been replaced)
Car taken to a garage, they didn't look at it for ages, eventually they got the BCM cloned, replaced the gateway (though from a used Skoda rather than cloning).
The CAN BUS issues all went away and no faults with VAGCOM.
However, the engine didn't run correctly, now the garage had the car for 6 months and the car had sat, but before all of this the engine was running faultlessly.
The garage told me that they were confident the electrics were ok, they sent the car to a diesel specialists as they thought it was a diesel issue, they checked it and couldn't find any issues, though they could only test what was accessible to them. After speaking to them they agreed that it sounds more like an electrical issue than anything else.
So, I need to get the car back and looked at by an electrical specialist who really knows their stuff. I have the old BCM and Gateway.
