tires again - help needed on Michelin PS3s
« on: 26 January 2014, 10:15 »
hi all

as I am about to change all 4 PS3s, there are two things I needed to make sure of before I part with my hard earned.

1. are Michelins made outside Europe, e.g. China, something to stay away from?  Also, do tires made in different places carry any substantial differences? (I just noticed that while 3 of my tires are made in hungary, the other is made in spain - I had them fitted all together about 18 months ago but only today noticed this difference).
2. Does date/year of make make any difference as to how good a tire is (i.e. Should i opt to buy tires made in 2013 rather than tires made in earlier years)?

thanks
Wife's: mk8 TSI 1.4 RL, 5dr atlantic blue, DSG, Norfolk 17", pan s/r, leds
Now: mk7.5 TSI 1.4 RL, 5dr tornado red, DSG, Singapore 17", pan s/r, leds
Before: mk6 GTI 5dr candy white, DSG, Monza Shadow 18", s/r, bi-Xenons, DCC
Even before that: mk5 GT 5dr tornado red, manual, s/r

The compound in tyres does harden over time and the tyres can split, but there should be little difference between tyres made in 2012 and 2013, I would buy any that are older

thanks mate, just placed an order, make date is 37/2013 which is pretty recent so no qualms there.
