Just fitted my own hood - bought from Autohoods. Well impressed with the price ?190 for a blue Ferguson Twill Mohair plus ?10 for the rear cables. Side cables were included. Total price ?234 in VAT.
Fitting was relatively simple, although it took 2 days (allowing the fabric to stretch and me not to lose my temper). Hardest part is the rear cable - fiddly and stapling the hood to the frame (both inner and rear window). 6mm staples in a heavy duty hand stapler are too big. Recommend machine/air stapler if possible.
When I work out how to do the photos I'll put some on.

have you a number or website for these guys cheers

Try these people. Based in Germany but prices are good and quality is not an issue from what I can gather from chatting to some people who've bought one.

Phone and check the prices, I did a search and tested 4 different fabrics until I was content. Tried both Autohoods http://www.autohoods.co.uk/ca_Volkswgen_golf_mk1.htm and Prestige at http://www.prestigeautotrim.com/uk/hoods/vw_hoods.htm
The autohoods felt a slightly thicker material, although the prestige hood looked a better cut. As said I went for the autohood (see good guys).
