When I had the same problems Shakav, my dealer said I needed a new steering wheel and not a s/w upgrade.

They changed the wheel under warranty and it has been problem free for 6 months now.  My s/w is still 1899 and hasn't changed for 12 months or so.

Have you asked for a new steering wheel?

My car was a UK import, steering wheel was changed in 2022 prior to me owning car. Mine is 1788 so I'm almost sure I need an update. Waiting to hear from dealer I purchased from this week...

1941 installed by dealer here in Ireland yesterday to fix reboot issues 🤞

Sorry to bump an old thread but where did you get the update done? I have a GTD MK8 with emergency&travel assist bongs issue. Cant seem to get VW Ennis, Limerick or Galway to update my software from 1788. Thanks

Got it done in Joe Duffy, Navan. It fixed the infotainment reboot issue I had.... Although I've had a handful of reboots since, it's well improved. I had steering wheel replaced, that fixed the emergency and travel assist bongs.... I have heard of the early replacement wheels needing to be replaced again, so I would sit on a dealer until they sort it out, especially if it's still within the 3 year warrant.

Side note... I had my SOS module replaced too.

Mine was a UK import only gone on Irish plates a month ago. Bought from a non VW garage here, have a warranty but only for gearbox & engine. Wonder how much a steering replacement will cost ffs  :embarrassed:

I have a question if anyone could advise please.
I had the travel assist, side assist, brake assist errors flash up yesterday took to dealer who reset car. First issue I have had with car in 18 months I have owned it (21 plate).
They said I need lastest 1941 (I think) software update booked for next week.
They are not going to change the steering wheel thou.

Is anyone running latest software without new wheel and is it all ok?

I was running the newest software without a wheel change and it made no difference.

The problem is simply the sensor in the wheel that makes it think you have let go of it...

It was finally fixed with a replacement wheel but for how long is anyone's guess.

Its definitely the steering wheel thats the problem, not so much the software. The VW dealers are aware of this

I echo that.  I asked my dealer to update my software when I was having those same problems.  They said I just needed a new steering wheel and didn't update the software.   The wheel was fitted a week later and they were right.  Not had any problems since and am still running on 1899 software which I've had for an eternity.

I’m on 1788, surely am due an upgrade. Have booked in for Monday morning with local VW dealer. Hoping a software update will resolve my emergency assist bongs. Sounds like I could be getting a new steering wheel based on the above posts

The software update wont stop the emergency assist bongs.
Insist that the steering wheel is changed---they are aware that this is the problem
Took me two and a half years of ownership to find this out

It has been changed previously back in 2022, should it require another one?
