Wish I was on as much money as you think I am :D

To be honest if it was my private car I would not get windscreen changed till next MOT. I work for a quite successful company, though they watch pennies (when they have to spend them regularly).

I do 40+ k miles a year in my company car, so want to be comfortable and safe. Not really wanting to spend 1200£ (though it's not my own money) on a new windscreen but compared to 500£ just for fuel each and every month it just does not seem an awful lot of cash...

My boss is not the problem, he's done my job so knows what kinda sh!t you can get.... it's the pea counters that are the issue :D Plus I got no choice in vendor... I have to phone lease company and accept their offer (company car policy calling).

I got a new windscreen fitted to my Golf GTD after 4 days of ownership! :-( A lorry kicked up a massive stone. I got it replaced through VW insurance at a VW garage. I've had a bad experience with Autoglass in the past and wouldn't trust them with a brand new car! VW also told me that all the repairs would be covered by them and everything would be under warranty. The service was excellent and the peace of mind was great. I only paid £60 (I think) but the full quote was about £650. I don't have the climate windscreen though so guess mine will be cheaper.

You do realise that vw don't fit replacement windscreens! They get someone in to do them usually auto glass. Don't think because your car went to a dealership it was done by VW.

Who said it was done by VW? All I said was it was done at a VW garage and through their insurance. They get a specialist in to do the work (Not Autoglass in my case), which is then checked by VW technicians for quality control. As they check the work they can cover it under VW warranty. I know this because they told me. Worth doing in my opinion, especially if you have a brand new car! (Mine was only 4 days on the road!)

The reason I didn't want Autoglass to change my screen is that they gouged out a massive chunk of interior trim on my previous car while cutting out the old screen! They didn't say anything to me about it and denied that they did it! Even though its impossible for that cut to appear in the location it was (Right next to the screen). Naturally this angered me and I've lost all faith in them to do any future work. At least without it being monitored/checked by a dealer.

By specialist you mean a glass company  I didn't say it was done by vw either it was you who said at a VW garage. Anyway it doesn't matter as long as the jobs done properly.

Your biggest worry after glass replacement is ensuring your autodimming rear view mirror (and lane assist if you have it) is working properly when everything gets swapped to the new screen.
