Talks about file structure, album art and even DAB logos.

Hope it helps some of you who already have your cars! I for one am already prepping an SD card for mine

Really useful that, well done for posting it up.
Even a technical incompetent like me can almost make sense of that!!!
Maybe a good idea to copy this thread into the Maintenance and Tips section or if Jimble could move it so it stays nice and visible and can be added to as people discover new things.

I cannot get my SD card working at all. I have a mixture of mp3's and m4a's, the structure is right, amde sure each top level folder has less than 1000 files in it. Tried the card in NTFS and exFAT format (both slow and fast formatting). The card won't recognise a thing. Put a mixture of the same files on a USB stick and that won't work either, although my original USB stick out of the Scirocco works in the car, only recognising the mp3's on it and not recognising the folder contents for an album folder that contains m4a's.
Has anyone else had issues with m4a's not being recognised in their Golf?

what brand or type of memory card & USB are people using that are working? fat32 or....going to invest in a new 1 just for the GTD  , if it works for you it should work for me

MajorKhan - if still looking for a card I got one of these which might be a bit OTT in spec for plain audio files but works fine in my new GTI - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32GB-32G-SANDISK-EXTREME-HD-SDHC-SD-HC-CLASS-10-45MB-S-MEMORY-CARD-RETAIL-PACK-/390643680548

My mac didn't want to play using terminal, so I used a piece of software called Blue Harvest to scrub the SD card of the 'invisible' files which show up on the screen in the car. Worked a treat.

I followed the how to but neither exfat nor ntfs worked, car just reported 'sd card not recognised', tried both quick and full formatting. So downloaded the 'official' sd card formatting program from here: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ (https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/) and formatted the card with the default settings, resulting in fat32 card. Works in the car fine. Card is £8 16gb class 4 card from amazon.

I'll prob need some help with this. What size card you use as a minimum?
Say for 40 albums/500 average tracks?

I've downloaded the station logos from VW site in readiness. As I understand it you you allocate the logos to each station manually and then can remove the SD card. Thats suggests the logos are held in the cars internal memory.
How many station logos can the car hold in memory??
Thanks.

15 or 18 I can't remember which.

You'd certainly get that onto a 4GB, SDHC card, but an 8GB won't cost much more and will give you scope for adding more. (You will want to!)

15 stations can be stored for each of DAB, FM & AM - you can assign a logo to each so 45 in total.

Hi guys, with regards to the SD card or USB stick, whats better to use? Or is it simply just personal preference? I generally use mini usb sticks for normal use, so i was just going to use one of them.
I've seen a 64gb Sandisk mini usb stick for £23.95 - BARGAIN!!

64GB SD card - £20
I believe you don't get a USB connection unless you have spec'd the discover nav system.

I'm struggling a little with one part of this, I have done the station logos no problem other than having to format to fat32 as per one of the comments under the blog post. Now onto music and using media player have got music to the SD card but no album artwork. The artwork is showing on the media player on my PC. appreciate any ideas anyone has to assist?
