Title: 1.8T AGU engine cuts out at random
Post by: Riverdac on 12 July 2022, 13:05
Hi folks, our much cherished 1.8T has been driving brilliantly but has developed a problem were the engine cuts out at random. There were pages of error codes that were cleared by fixing a split vacuum hose, loose battery lead and putting back the original Lambda sensor but the problem persists. The engine always restarts immediately buts it's a bit scary if you're doing 70 on a dual carriageway! My mechanic is baffled but a friend suggested crank case sensor or maybe ECU relays. Has anyone had anything similar?

Looks like I've found the source of the issue with the help of the excellent GP Autos MK Ltd. It seems the fuel pump relay is far from simple in this model and controls all the systems that were throwing up error messages. In particular I have the 8 pin '409' relay and luckily it seems to have been a dry connection cos finding a replacement wasn't proving straightforward. Fingers crossed the electical contact cleaner fixes it long term.
