Worn valve stems?
« on: 10 March 2007, 02:50 »
Hi folks
My Mk2 16V is using a bit of oil. There seems to be quite a bit more white smoke than i would considr normal when cold, then seems to get less as the engine warms up. once up to temperature i can still see a bit of white smoke from the exhaust. Is this possibly valve stem problem or something else. Anyone interested i would be greatful of advice. She has done aprox 160000 miles and has been extremely well looked after over the years. I appreciate it as always guys! look forward to hearing your views...

all valvers use oil, mine still uses oil after new piston rings and stem oil seals!
I get smoke at high revs when booting it, normal driving it is fairly clear.

I'm now wondering if it could be oil getting into the air intake from the oil breather (well I'm hoping its this!!).
If not I can only assume that it is the valve guides themselves or the valve stems that are worn.

And I am not taking the head off again in a hurry!
