Yup, unlss you're bolts are f**ked, I'm pretty sure it's just 2 bolts on the hub, and the top mount assembly, and it's out. I've done it a few times, and I can't remember anything else, but I may be wrong. You could also look at a G60 top mount set up which I think makes the ride a bit more comfortable
tried looking them up but could not find what a G60 top mount even is lol. any suggestions on where to look? and is it a fairly easy job to change the strut yourself? never done it before ha

something more like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK2-GTI-CORRADO-SHOCK-TOP-MOUNT-KITS-C162-/190315437048?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c4faf1bf8

the top mounts are the large flat round things, will see them if you take the caps off in your engine bay.
tis a pretty easy job, i managed to do it first time without any hassle so can't be that hard. you do need spring compressors for the fronts though.
have a look in the maintenance section. think there's a thread there about fitting coilovers that will give you an idea of what's involved.

sounds good but like i said before i have no interest in coilovers. i want to put origional springs and shocks back on. will the maintenance section also cover those parts instead of the coilovers? and what brand of spring/shocks should i go with. should i just look on forums for people parting their car and just pick up some used parts or would they be better to buy brand new?

This is the one i was thinking of:

Should give you an idea of what's invlolved in replacing your suspension. As for brands, this has been covered before so you should find a lot of info on it. Koni/Eibach seem to be the favourites, or Bilstein if you want to keep it close to OE feel.

For a good set of coilovers which are height, rebound and bump adjutable your are looking at around £1000
Have a look though these.

http://www.venommotorsport.com/prod_category_search.php?db=suspension&category=Coilovers&make=VW&model=Golf Mk 2

As you can see you get what you pay for, either coilovers or shocks and springs, if you go shocks and springs i would go adjustable shocks.
MK4 GTI T AGU, REVO Remap, BMC carbon box, Miltek cat back, Forge diverter valve, THS FR3 engine/Gbox mounts, Some random alloys, lowered on coilovers.
192bhp 212lbft torque.
