the CL uses H4's as it has one bulb that does dipped and full beam.
GL and GTI use H7 as they have 2 seperate bulbs for each beam.
Same as vento's use H4's.

wrong! main beam on a gti is H1
-
OK. That means that my CL and the Chrysler is H4 and the GL is H7. Annoyance, was hoping a set of HIDs would fit all. Off-road use only. Well, except on the Chrysler, aut leveling and optional projectors make it HID legal.

^^^Agreed.

Looking in my Haynes manual it looks like there is just one bulb behind the three heater dials that illumates them all. Is this right? as the fan speed one on mine isn't illumated at all, the temp dial is patchy and the direction one is ok.
Before I take it to bits, I've looked everywhere for what bulb is behind there. Looking at the list above is it the:
interior,boot,glovebox 233, or
dash 286t
Cheers.

Yeah just the one bulb mate

Cheers, but does anyone know if it's the 233 or 286T?
-
I'm sure it's a 286 (without the holder so minus the t )

Do you wanna prune this thread and move it over Brad?

aftermarket lights...pah fitting old school bulbs :lipsrsealed: (my old mk1 escort had h3's)
and the list...
H1 is a 448
H3 is a 453
H4 is a 472
H7-H13 is fitted to cars from 98/99 onwards only!
BA9 is a 233
W5W is a 501
DE3022 is a 239 (although theres about 5 different lenghts!! and each have different numbers!)
all from knowledge retained from my motor trade days!! (I might need the info if the bank goes truly bust!! :lipsrsealed:)
-
What about fog lights to add to this list?
-
Interor, Boot, Glovebox
All: 233
FAIL!
The main interior light is longer than the boot and glovebox ones. And a 233 bulb is not the right bulb either. The interior lights are long ones and have connectors on each end, 233 bulbs are the old type of sidelight bulb.
-
Well, that's what Brad said, so you know.
Sure your's hasn't been modified?
-
233 bulb...

Interior light bulb...

42-44mm Festoon.
The glovebox and boot ones are shorter Festoon bulbs.
-
haha love the word festoooooon
-
You know
I'm going to measure my boot light at lunch...
-
Ahh, one of the interior lights is 233.
The map light I think it's called.
-

indeed it isnt
EDIT they are 501's
-
Anyone got the fogs though?
-
Ahh, one of the interior lights is 233.

Nope thats a 501 bulb, same as the numberplate lights.
-
233 in mine.
-
Mines a 501.
What year is yours, and have you actually taken it out?
Is it a screw in type or a push in type?
-
Mine is a 1992.
Yeah, I have, it's a push and twist.
Haven't checked the GL though, may be different?
-
Fair enough, they should all be the same though and every mk3 ive looked at the map light in has been a 501.
-
Eh, I dunno. It's a CL and one of the oldest. Maybe it's not a genuine light, I dunno.
-
mines a 233 (just like my sidelights!!)
-
How strange! my sidelights are 233 bulbs :)
Prehaps mines been replaced with a later one then
-
Hmmmm  I'm confused.
Bought some bulbs today (380) as recommended on here, but when I took the bulb cover off the old bulb only had a single contact and filament, whereby the 380's have 2 filaments and contacts.
I changed them for 382's, which are obviously the same size and specs, but only have a single filament and contact.
Is this going to be a major problem?
Also the rear lights don't appear to be all the same size; the indicator, brake light (that comes on with the brake pedal) and the fog are all 380/382 size, but the light that comes on with the side/main lights was smaller. Is this right or can they be changed for 380/382's with no problems?
Please, please excuse my ignorance but I'm trying hard to learn.

Here's my list.....
Headlamp non gti H4 gl/gti/vr H1 x2
sidelights upto 95 233 late 501
number plate 501
side repeaters 501
tail 207
stop/tail 382
indicators 382
interior,boot,glovebox 233
dash 286t
I will modify this thread so it includes correct info
-
So it should be 382's then (single contact)? Ok, that makes me feel a bit better. But is the smaller 5w bulb for the rear lights (that are on whenever lights are one) right? I just changed it for the smae type as that's what my Dad had to hand).
I'm so stupid, but I do try my best
-
207 for tail
-
Ok, I think. Mental meltdown occuring, what I've done seems to work, that'll have to do for now.
Cheers for the help though
