So as I am having a couple probs with the car, and I cant afford the real deal at the mo, I thought I would get this cable from ebay :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290930019045?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
After having trouble with the com port, I managed to get that working, I can scan the engine fine and for some reason it says no faults (my mate scanned with his snap on scanner and showed an EGR fault) my cable will also scan the radio, and instrument, but anything else I try and scan I get an "No response from controller" message
Anyone had this and know a fix ?

try going to the options screen of vag com and put a buad of 9600 instead of 0 and click apply!
-
Thanks Jamie will give it a try
-
Nope that didn't fix it

Clue could be in the fact its from Ebay and not a genuine lead..........

Connect the cable to the laptop.
Right click on ‘my computer’,
Left click on ‘manage’,
Left click on ‘device manager’ (on the left hand side)
Left click on arrow for ‘Ports (COM & LPT)’
Right click on ‘USB serial Port (COM )’ (there will be a number after COM)
Left click on ‘properties’
Left click on ‘Port settings’
Left click ‘Advanced’
Latency Timer is in the BM Options select 12 (thats what i use)
Left click ‘OK’
Left click ‘OK’

Sorry, it may just be me...do you mean there is no communication at all when you try to select different ports in the test screen on vagcom?
-
I am able to check engine, HVAC and instruments, when I try to scan anything else being engine II, III, electrics, I get the communication failed message

Probably because those modules aren't installed in your car
You can only communicate with stuff thats actually fitted
Dont forget VAGCOM is used across the VAG group and therefore other cars have more or less modules fitted
-
-
But surely I can can check more than 3 or 4 things ?

Doubtful with an Ebay lead......try them all and see what you can connect to
Genuine lead will only list whats fitted to the car :nerd:
