collected my GTi on Friday and although i specced the 19" Adalaides, i dont like black wheels but they are a damn site nicer than the stock ninja throwing star things!!

I've already booked them in to be repainted so dont have to endure them for long, alloys should be silver in my opinion, simple.
Is it too early to ask if anyone else has done the same / think the same?

I'll post a picture when they are done if ive worked out how to by then!! ha

That's a bold move on brand new oem alloys!

I know what you mean though, diamond cut wheels are crap. Why vw insist i don't know.

I know but I really don’t like black wheels - they belong in 2004!
In my opinion of course, I don’t want to offend everyone cos I’ve only just joined!

Surely I’m not the only person that thinks this though am I?
Maybe I am!!

The thing that bothers me about them is the place insert type bits. Odd.

No, you’re not alone; black alloys wouldn’t be my first choice, but I do like anthracite or grey. I hate diamond cut alloys though;
  • diamond cut wheels are more expensive than powder coated alloys to refurbish, and can usually only be refurbished a maximum of two times.
  • they readily succumb to white worm corrosion because of the poor durability of lacquer on polished alloy finish.
  • the diamond cut finish is easily damaged by inexperienced tyre fitters and poorly maintained tyre changing equipment.
Given the choice of black alloys or diamond cut, I’d go for black every time.

As for getting your brand new diamond cut wheels refinished - many GTI buyers might expect / would prefer the factory wheels in the factory diamond cut finish. In your situation, I think I’d consider getting a set of aftermarket alloys and keep your current diamond cut wheels, put them into storage and then put them back on the car when the time comes to sell. That’s what I’ve done with my current car - and I did the same with the previous two cars too, and had no problems selling the aftermarket alloys.

Yes, i meant to say modifying the oem ones will decrease the resale value of the car.

The wheel refurbish is going to cost how much? Hundred plus per wheel? A different set of third party wheels won't cost much more and the difference you'd recoup in not dropping the resale value of the car down the road.
