Mayonnaise With That Sir ?
« on: 08 March 2025, 12:40 »
With my GTi Edition 35 I thought I'd take the advice and change the HPFP cam follower and also give it an oil and filter change, so I bought the parts and steamed in also going to give it a flush using a Liqui Moly product so removed the oil filler cap to add the flush only to be greeted by a cap of Mayo, now this wasn't just a hint of mayo it was a full serving of full fat stuff  with my limited knowledge I checked the coolant bottle and the level was spot on so I started my head scratching exercise added the flush and completed the oil and filter change and started to pray that the mayo would be gone, unfortunately after much praying and clocking up about 40 miles the mayonnaise waiter has returned with a healthy serving and yet the coolant level is still spot on, so does anyone have any ideas what could be going on? Thanks in advance and look forward to being steered in the right direction.

Good morning,

This is usally caused in these engines due to short journeys.

These engine's (All TFSI) suffer from not being able to vent the condensation very well and usally do it via the exshuast (This is why you sometimes will see what looks like water dripping from the tips on idle) it's advised to take the car for a long blast, get the engine (And oil) upto full temp for a good 20mins. This will "usallay" clear it. Don't stress to much about there being Mayo residue on the oil cap, take out your dipstick and it should hopefully be clear, its when that is caked in Mayo you need to be worried.

If your coolant is spot on, and not move at all, I would say its the above. But..... for peice of mind, take it to VW or a VW specialist to look over it just to be double sure.

Thanks Nino I knew you'd be the man with the answer, I'll try and get out in it at the weekend and give it good run hopefully it'll help. Do you know if there is a way to improve the venting the condensation?

To my knowledge, I am aware some people have have had sucess replacing the PCV section and some others have had sucess installing catchcan system but the latter is hassle I wouldn't want tbh.

Might be worth double checking your PCV is ok.
Good video here that explains how to check: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO9uVCfVUWc

Below is a good chart and explains quite abit.
