Title: Starting issue, about to spend money but would like advice first
Post by: twotwofour on 06 January 2012, 11:36
Last few days the car has been a bit sluggish to start. Without investigating i'd put it down to a dying battery and was going to replace it this weekend.

This morning it wouldnt start at all. The starter motor didnt spin at all, i checked the battery and all is well, i checked the connections and they appear good, cleaned everything. Tried the lights on and attempted to start it again and the lights disappear completely so it appears something is sucking all the juice. I gave the starter a tap with a hammer and it attempted to start, all this points to the starter being tired to me.

Am i thinking correctly?

its an agg motor and has had a new starter at some point in its life already as its got the markings a scrapper would write on it.

Been quoted £75 for a new one. Good deal?

Will

How many volts do you get when engine is:
a) off
b) you're trying to start it
c) on

sounds like battery has a cell faulty
