Annoying problem
« on: 19 May 2003, 20:41 »
Hi guys,

My 88 16v always cuts out after starting from hot or cold. If the accelerator is held down for about 10 seconds then it is fine (sometimes longer when cold). During this period, however, the car drives fine, just cuts out when my foot is taken off the gas.
I have replaced the idle stabilisation valve but the problem is still there.
Is anybody else experiencing this?
Cheers
Tom

Check fuse17 or 18 first.

Then check the Idle Stabilisation Control Unit which is in the cabin, centre console.

Its an electrical component. To test it, unplug it and see if the car behaves any differently.

Regards,
Justin

Yup, i'd definitely start looking in this area.

What strikes me most about this forum is the amount of people who have this problem. I have read so many postings where people are cleaning this and that, replacing x y and z and still have the same problem.

I also think alot of people in trade keep quiet about it because its a licence to print money when you find a poor sucker who has got it.

I mean - who start pulling the interior apart when you have an engine problem?

If you have this problem on your 8v Digifant GTI then please visit my web site below and follow the technical articles section. It will show you how to fix it! Would be worth the 16v people looking as well.
