Im also looking for a satnav in my Golf as well but not sure which is the best one to go for.
I have asked several places including my local vw and they are willing to fit it but some of them are asking for £699 which i think is quite high really.
I actually found a place where they claim to fit a genuine vw Discovery Media pro but the price is doubled...£1400 and i will to travel for 2 hours to get there then 2 hours back lol.

So guys which one would you recommend?

Has anyone managed to update their unit via SD card? If so how does the IMG file looks like? Does the file needs to be unlocked via some sort of key?

Thank you lots for any help.

Just to let you guys know that I have got Kenwood GVN60 fitted and it works fine.
It was fitted by my local VW garage and gave them a SD Card extender which fit in the satnav module and then secure by a piece of velcro in my glove box. The satnav itself is hidden away behind the glovesbox so there are wires anywhere to be seen.

The TMC is free for Life which is great but a bit hit & miss with coverage.
I have also managed to update my maps (2017) via SD Card including adding speed cameras as POI.

Anyone knows how I can improve my TMC signal? The FM antenna is tucked around the A frame of the car.
Any suggestion please?

Thank you all.

I thought the FM antenna was in the rear window?

If not, maybe it actually has two antennae - the older golfs did I believe and had two connectors which it dynamically swapped between to get the best signal.

No, I meant that the mk7's fm antenna is in the heated rear screen... The antenna cable behind the dash runs to there.

Ahhh I see what you mean now - the Kenwood has two antenna feeds - you've got the radio one hooked up and they provide a seperate aerial you fit round the door frame for TMC.

I bit of google suggests that the reception is poor though just as you describe.

Seems the answer is to get a Kenwood aerial splitter and connect both aerial connections to the actual in car FM aerial which is as I say the heated rear screen.

Give that a whirl.

Hi Fedgroves,

I think I will do just that, but can you please help me with this?
Which one is the FM port and where do you think I can one?

https://ibb.co/ik4MBF

I am a bit confused as well if i need a ken wood splitter or do i need one that will split the VW antenna?
Sorry too many questions mate.

Or is it easy enough if connect the actual TMC cable to the original VW FM antenna?
Thanks
