MK3 Semi-Hard ride at rear...
« on: 28 July 2003, 11:05 »
Just bought a GTI MK3 GTI 2.0, understandably the suspension will be slightly firmer than my old rover :-) However, when i go over over small potholes, i hear a knock coming from the rear left hand side tyre.  And I inherit the physical shock it produces whilst going over the bump, moreso when i have passengers sitting in the rear...

Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Thanks for that.

I got one of the lads from kwik fit to take a look at it, he reported no leakage.  I'll get a second opinion though.  If it is one of the shocks, how much will one of these things set me back (ball park figure).

Cheers

I just had my o/s/r shock replaced on my mk3 friday just gone.

?26 for the garage to buy the shock and 1/2 hr labour to fit.

try German Swedish and French. ?29.99 i believe for a shocker.

Depends on which make you purchase.  I got a pair of Boge rear shocks from GS&F for mine and they're fine.  Make sure you buy replacement bump stops as they're bound to be knackered.

Mine handled great!!...just kept thumping in the back when it went over a pothole.....bit like it was bottoming out. Spoke to Jim Cotton at Awesome and he said "back axle bushes they go on all mk3s" without even looking at it (my mates went at 2 years old 10,000 miles!!)
