Yeah it does get a little better at 5k revs doesnt it!!! Just sounds so bloody harsh getting there.

At 65 Mph on the motorway it sounds awful.

Let us know if it changes when you change the bits and pieces.

I read a report on the Mk4 2.0GTI and they said the same thing. a rough old engine....

You are all asking about the engine noise from the 16v. The best description i can give is that at 4k revs it launches forward and sounds like an angry balistic missile. Not rough, just angry!
