Moyo in oil
« on: 09 November 2012, 11:47 »
Hi, I have a 2.0 8v and noticed some Moyo type in the oil, there was a small amount on the dip stick as well but that has seemed to of gone after the car was running for a while. Still some on the oil filler cap though and i left the car running till it reached normal running temperature and it is still present, is this normal? I have recently had the head tested at a VW specialist and was told the head gasket wasn't failing. I'm not losing coolant or anything like that.

Thanks in advance,

Do you do a lot of short journeys? If so perfectly normal.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Well at the moment it isn't taxed or insured so literally it's just been started and left to run for say 15 minutes each time, if that.

I just cleaned the moyo off and left the engine to run for 30 minutes and no moyo, but seems like its common so i'll leave it alone, was just a bit worried thats all.

Thanks

Perfectly normal, my car does 4.5miles each way to work and I get the mayo in the colder months,

Most 2.0 8valves and the 1.6 8 valves if seen all seem to have mayo all over the oil cap and must be something about those engines!!

Its more to do with the moisture that collects in the plastic filler on top of the rocker cover,
Unless the engine is getting to operating temp and running long enough to burn it off, the mayo will appear.
I try to take it for a longer run at weekends and give it some beans which seems to clear it and help prevent it building up.
