Title: Unmarked BMW trying to race me!?
Post by: KennyGTI on 01 March 2012, 20:35

On my way home from Glasgow lastnight an unmarked 5 series was trying to wind me up by driving at 60 mph along the bypass with me behind it then flooring it to +100 mph till it reached then roundabout, I stayed at the speed limit fortunatley! It went straight on at the roundabout and I was going right, by the time we passed the junction he went off at the misses seen it down the road doing a u turn and heading back to the roundabout! Sat right up my arse along the next bypass till I had to come off a junction early! The bugger fortunatley continued down the bypass and by the time I went back on you could see him coming back the other way!! Ha ha, bet he was disappointed I didn't want to race him!

Are these guys allowed to do this, antagonize joe public into racing them so you get done for it!

That's like police on foot walking up to someone and antagonizing them until they lash out and arresting them!?

Thats not really on is it  However sounds like normal BMW driving behaviour to me   :laugh: I have never raced a BMW and never will I always let them get on with it for the very reason you have given.

Have to agree Kenny, if it's the police then that sort of behaviour is not on. The police seem to love that new bypass.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if it was just "Bazz" cruising in his new motor. Those 5 series can be had for precious little these days and with the mapping potential of dirty dervs they seem to be popular amongst the McDonalds patrons.

Did you see any police inside the car?

Had the same thing on the way back fom lincoln... audi s3 trying to race me followed by a ST. I was early for a change so just continued along unfamilar roads a speed limit. Couple of miles down the road the S3 had pulled over the ST. Not nice when they try egg you into a race initially.

They used to do it something awful in Manchester about 8 years ago. They had a proper 'barried' up Clio and would just drive down the main dual carriageway going into the city goading others into races, then promptly a marked car would pull over anyone stupid enough to give in.

Typical Police priorities :(

Here in Sussex, there is a website run by Sussex Police to report antisocial driving, speeding, poor parking etc. If there is something like that where you are and you have the number, why no try reporting it on there.

What, reporting the police, to the police - I'm not sure that would fly.

Surely that cant be legal? Entrapment or whatnot?

And what if their aggressive driving caused you to crash from being destracted by them. And worse you got hurt. There must be a case on answer. Sounds outrageous to me.

those video cameras that sit on the dash look more and more appealing.

You'd think they would have enough to do like picking up tailgaters or half asleep polish lorry drivers.

Did you see any lights on the back parcel shelf or buried in the bumper?

Just because the first part of the reg number is the same doesn't necessarily mean that its the unmarked car your dad has seen in the petrol station.

Bear in mind 'unmarked' police cars aren’t exactly secret squirrel stuff; they have lights in the front bumper/grill, a camera under the rear view mirror and a host of lights, cameras, antennas on the rear parcel shelf. In short, they stick out like the proverbial dog's doodads, even at night.

Typical barry boy BMW 5 series probably.

Detritus.

Wish I had your sharp spotting eyes last year when I cruised by one at 96 mph!

its when they cruise by you at that speed in a fully marked car....that you didn't spot in your mirror, without the lights on and signal for you to slow down before ...speeding up themselves...again with no lights!

Me too... a blue Scooby came zooming up behind me on a dual carriageway a few weeks ago. I'd overtaken it earlier at (ahem ahem) mph. There were no visible lights/antennas/cameras/etc.

Fortunately, I moved out the way and it ended up having a "race" with an Audi TT in front of me. A bit further down the road said TT was pulled over.

It's not legal, but you try satnding in front of a majistrate and telling them that he was acting like a w@nker.
