Need advice on........

Hi all, merry crimbo an all that.
Just need sum advice on my mk1 1600 gti.
It has 84,000 miles on it.
I find it hard to go frm 4th to 5th gear at low revs, its a lot ezier when am on around 2,500 rpm's.
Also is it normal for the car to do a lot of engine oil as in i need to top up  alittle every 400 to 500 hundred miles.
Any advice would be fantastis.

PS i also need to no if theres a good garage i can take my car to for maintainence.

Hi Themarkedone and welcome to golfgti.
Poor gear selection could be clutch or gear linkage related, sometimes changing the g/box oil helps.
The clutch pedal should sit at the same height as the brake pedal, check the gear linkage for worn bushes and replace as required. Oil consumption is usually worn valve stem seals, cylinder head off job is the best way to go and give everything a decoke while you are there.

Hi Steve, hope the festive season went well.
In terms of the valve stem seals and the dekokin i was just wondering if you may no anywherein london where i can get this done?
