Hi again Steve, looks like the A3 170 is quicker on paper as Audi quote a lower 0-60 time for their DSG models.  VW used to report lower DSG 0-60 times for their DSG models but for some reason the MK6 stats for both the GTI, GTD or R are shown with the same 0-60 for both manual and DSG!

No its not quicker standard.
I looked at the audi and decided if i went for the audi i would get the quattro version. It was my sensible fall back option when i thought the GTI order was going really badly. There are quite a few time i think i should have gone that way and my family often say i should have and at the time really wanted me to.

For me it was a toss up between the S3 sportback and the Golf, I went with the golf which was the best choice due to the miles I cover plus the audi chassis seemed very dated and there's a new A3 due any day.
