Help jv choose his next Golf
« on: 26 June 2003, 16:30 »
I knew there would be a use for these polls!

It's time to buy my next Golf. Help me decide with these tips:

It's will be my only car. I only do about 10 miles a day to work but do the occasional big trip to family/footy/friends etc so needs to be quite reliable.

Will be stored outside most of the time - theft target?

Mk2 is my favourite shape

Mk3 highline is super luxury and pretty quick

Seeing Adam's Sportsline last weekend made me want one

Mk2 would leave enough money for a 20vT engine swap  :)

Hello JV, Hope your well..

If I were you I'd go for the MK2, they have always been reliable and they do look allot better than a MK3..  You can alway get hold of a good MK2 with allot of the luxuries you get in a MK3, you dont need them all, that would make it a lazy drive and takes away part of the fun of driving..

Have you considered a MK1, they are blantantly the most fun?? ;)

I know allot of people have them but personally I do think they look nicer, and and have allot more potential..  I have a MK1 as you may have guessed and I think they are the bet ever GTI..   You may think I'm wrong but I have so much fun in mine..  I've kept up with mk3 in my vectra but I raced my old girlfriend in her mk2 and she beat me hands down..

I know that they are slower but, I like haveing a bigger car with electric windows, mirrors, sunroof etc.  Althought I does depend who you are racing with because my 8v has beaten a mk2 8v.  But at the end of the day you cannot go wrong because it has the badge that matters on it VW

John,
you gotta go for the sportline or rivage. electric windows and other gimicky things can be added if you want.
1 It's a classic car that isn't going to lose much money
2. I have had GT4's, BMW 325i, integra's, a lot of sportbikes, and still own a 150 mph SAAB, but get more pleasure from driving the cabrio. and definatly wouldn't change it
3. I use it every day and it probably does well over the average 12000 miles annually.
4. If you like to pose, you WILL get more looks in this with the roof down, from the average Joe Shmoe on the high street.
5. and finally, how much attention did mine get over the weekend?
you gotta buy a cabriolet, there is no question!

(maybe I am biased, not sure)
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture
