Intake manifold
« on: 14 July 2021, 18:42 »
Hi lads, I have recenley had the amber engine warning light appear on the dash of my mk6 gti.
I had it diagnosed as the inlet manifold sensor. I had the fault deleted but 24 hours later it re-appeared.
does anyone have a fix for this or will it be a new manifold. many thanks in advance.

Had this a while ago. Repeated fault delete several times but came back. There is a revised intake manifold from the original that I had to fit. No further problems for 5 years. The flaps in the manifold are supposed to adjust as the turbo boosts up  but can fail to operate. On the mk5 it was possible to repair but on the mk6 it is a sealed unit. Think you will have to replace the manifold. Worth looking about decarbing the inlet valves at the same time.

Many thanks Joe, it confirms my worst fears, any idea how much the unit costs.

When I had mine replaced in 2019 the manifold part itself was about £370 inc VAT.

I think it was about 2 hours labour charges.

I have heard of people importing the part from US (ridiculous that importing a part from US would be cheaper for a German car, but there you go).

You will have to pay import duty on top of shipping costs, though... so do your research and make sure it actually will be cheaper.

High lads, I eventually purchased the OEM inlet manifold for my MK6 GTI from the USA, total cost was £276 VW Redditch wanted £480, I think you'll agree not a saving to be sniffed at, and thanks again for the heads-up from Borbus.

Wow, yeah, that's quite a saving. I will be doing the same if/when my intake manifold needs replacing. I take it you had to pay import duty on the UK side?
