I am looking at getting a dashcam installed. I am reluctant to get Halfrauds to do it as when they installed one on my Polo GTI I am sure they caused the ice forming on the inside of my windscreen on cold days.
I have seen a couple of vids on youtube but they seem fairly hard to do. Has anyone got any tips on install and camera used? What fuse port did you use?

I was a bit apprehensive about fitting the dash cam, but its easy. Took me about an hour. Follow the youtube instructions for a Golf mk7 (there arent any for the Mk8) I think the fuse i used was 24, its the one for the 12v adapter plug (it tells you in the manual. If you are in Nottinghamshire i am willing to help

I used fuse F52 as the book says this is for accessories and 12v socket, not had any problems.

I have a Nextbase front and rear camera on my Polo. It really isn't all that difficult to do yourself, if you take your time and pull back the pieces of trim carefully you will end up with a clean job. It is worth getting one of those plastic trim tools, you get one with the Nextbase but I can't speak for others.
As for connections, I used an OBD adapter rather than piggybacking the fuse box, it was just easier at the time. You can get them on Amazon and they have a little switch on them that can toggle on all the time, or only when the ignition is on.

If you have any other questions I'll be happy to help

For a trim easing tool, i used a plastic bicycle tyre lever.

Saw a review of an Octavia VRS and it had a USB port next to the rear view mirror for a dash cam....... Now what a good idea.
