Post by: Gavv8 on 21 July 2012, 14:10: I wonder if the cars you grow up with influence your taste in later life, i used to get a lift to school with a mate and his dad had a mk1 campaign and his mum had an orange beetle, now i loved that mk1 so much because it looked great and sounded and went great too and i hated the beetle because it was cold and noisy and kept breaking down and the vinyl seats were bouncy and cold.
I've been to quite a few 'bug' events and the vibe is usually great and the people are always friendly and knowledgeable and the commitment and effort that goes in to some the cars and vans is staggering but i just don't seem to 'feel it', but i do respect it.

Post by: Seanl on 21 July 2012, 16:21: I've never been big on the Bugs. I was never into the whole retro, peace loving, dope smoking scene that seems to surround V Dubs of this era. I do however, have a serious urge to get a splitty or bay window camper at the moment. I don't know why, but in the last 6 months I've proper fallen in love with them. Only time I've ever had the same feeling about wanting a car, was with the Corrado. Fortunately, I could afford one of those though! :sad:

My family had a string of VWs; my parents and grandparents both had Mk1 Golfs, my parents also had a Derby, Mk1 Jetta and a Santana (passat saloon).
But a neighbour had a pristine 60s (I think) green Beetle. He'd had it since it was nearly new and only drove it about 1000 miles a year, it was washed every week and always looked great. I would have got one myself if I hadn't been drawn to the Golf by another neighbour's Mk2 GTI.

I do love a good Beetle but these days I need the practicality of a big boot and space for kids.
But we are about to go on holiday in a borrowed T25 camper, so I will probably be wanting one of those pretty soon.

Post by: jmsheahan on 26 July 2012, 14:51: Always had a soft spot for aircooled stuff. No idea what it stemmed from but decided my first car was to be a Beetle. Owned it for 4 years as a daily driver doing a mini resto on it with the help of my grandad (brought back memories for him as he had one in the 60's). Having another Beetle around rekindled something special for him as he bought another to tinker with through his retirement years :cool:

That's awful. :sad:

Read similar about a bay window camper in a mag recently. One owner from new, sent it off to be fully restored so he could pass it on to his son, before this happened it was stolen.

Fully on it. Sits well, rear windows are a good shape and managed to keep a fairly good curve to the roof.

The Martini livery took the car to another level, and I don't think I've ever seen one since
This could even be the same car... who knows He used to have a cherished No plate on it, 17 AVA that I've seen of other Porsches and Ferrari's since

Think he sold it last year and the new owner has changed it round to how it is now which is fair enough, but i preferred it blue.

I desperately love it and I am so keen to do a retro US style motor of some description. The white walled wheels and steel bowls are just perfect. I'd love to own a Beetle in a similar aesthetic vane, and I'd
love a Porsche engine in it.

Id be eternally grateful for any other pictures. I'd go as far as to say this is the best car or link to a car I have witnessed on this forum.

Although this one is a beetle body on a boxter chassis -

Agree, chopped and sectioned, but rear pillars look a little fat, center section of the roof looks like its been moved rearwards, while the sides are where they should be, rake on the rear of the roof looks a little to steep because of it, I like it though

This is my 1967 Bug, its had a few modifications since the photo was taken, I have narrowed the front beam and tweaked the engine a bit, it now got a Quiet Pack on it and has a fair bit of poke.
