Slightly disappointed with my Mk7 GTI
« on: 11 August 2022, 22:58 »
So I've had my mk7 GTI for 4 days and I am slightly disappointed with the way it sounds. I had a Mk5 GTI before and the exhaust sound was much deeper and the engine was less refined. Imo the Mk5 sounds better than the Mk7. This is when the car is idling and accelerating.

Everything else about the car feels and looks fantastic and (imo) is better than the mk5. It's just the sound.

So, can anyone recommend anything.  Back box? Resonator delete?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Is the resonator delete a cut and weld job or a replacement piece of pipe?

I am always wary of making 4 cylinder cars louder as they can sound a bit chav, but could do with a bit more aural enjoyment from mine as well.

Cut the Resonator out, bolt a straight pipe in. it WILL drone for the first few hundred miles but as it beds in the drone will go away.

I gather that the most restrictive part of the Mk7 GTI setup is the downpipe

Are you implying a piece of pipe "beds in"?
That's not how it works   :undecided:

The catalytic converter kills off and muffles a lot of the exhaust sound. Go with a decatted exhaust if you want a little throaty exhaust tone.

Replace the center resonator in the car with a straight section of pipe and keep the rear silencer. Will gain a nice bit of sound and have zero drone in the cabin
